I’m quite pleased with my 124 books read last year. Its certainly well beyond my intended one hundred. /flex
124 books translates into 46,346 pages (give or take a few hundred for user error). Now that is an impressive number!
So this year, instead of going for books read, my goal will be to read 50,000 pages. I will still be doing my challenges and reading roughly ten-ish books a month (I will actually be running quite a few different challenges over at Goodreads.com) but I will refrain from boring you all by posting about them. =P
The idea came to me last year after I had finished a monster book worth 850+ pages. It just felt so unfair that this huge volume only counted as a single entry.
This year size WILL matter. I can aim for meaty books and not feel like I’m limiting myself because each page will count!
Quite looking forward to this one, as I have quite a few books in from the library that need to be read before the year is out.
Last month went far better than I expected it too, so I am holding out some hope for managing quite a few books, despite the holidays.
TBR Clean-up Challenge.
Pick 10 books from your current physical TBR pile (preferably books that have been there for quite some time). Also pick 5 more books as ‘alternate’ reads just in case.
Unlike previous challenges, once you put up this list, you CANNOT CHANGE it. However, you can drop down to an alternate book, if you really cannot finish a book that you have selected in your original list.
November is here, and somehow I dont feel ready. It might have to do with my inability to complete ten books a month for a while now. October was no different and with the holidays just ramping up and I dont see it getting any better this year.
On the bright side I officially hit 100 books in October. In fact I’m at 107 books read for the year. That’s roughly 30’000 pages of reading. Not too shabby. =D
Anyway. on to Novembers Challenge:
You take the letters in the word P-A-R-A-N-O-R-M-A-L, for each letter you find a book which either has an author whose first or last name starts with this letter or a book which title starts with the given letter. If a book starts with the articles: a, an, the, you have the option of ignoring them or not.
Reading ten a month has been a bit of a challenge, nine seems to be more my number. Ah well. Will just plod along and continue my attempt at ten each month.

Inspired by the changing hues of the Fall season, October’s is nicknamed Literary Colors Challenge.
The goal is to read 10 books whose covers match predominantly the colors listed.
One of each: Orange, Red, Brown, Green, Black, Yellow, Purple, Pink, Blue, Silver/Gray
September’s reading challenge is a bit hefty in the description so I am listing the books first.
Selecting the books for this challenge was quite entertaining as the idea was the utilize all the Goodreads features. But then the selecting process has always been half the fun. (more…)

July wasn’t shaping up to be much better with all the traveling and such, but I contracted a mild stomach flu and spent the past few days listless yet not so incapacitated I couldn’t read. Thus I am chugging right along on my July stack. (See how I am trying for a silver lining on my being sick during vacation?) Then again most months that I am ahead I space out half way through and have to scrounge at the end. =)
Ten books a month is a lot to read and I find that I’m struggling with getting enough sleep and finishing all my books. Sadly the best reading time for me is also the best sleeping time. Ah well, I’m still well on track to read 100 books this year.

So I actually looked at my too read pile and found books that my GoodReads friends had already read. Might have cheated a bit, but its good for the pile. Besides I only managed nine books last month. Must get a crackin!
Its that time again where I marvel at the fact that I somehow managed to read all the books from the previous month and stare at the huge stack of books for the next month and wonder how in the hell I’m going to miss enough sleep to read them all. ~breath~

Last months challenge worked out better than I expected. In fact this whole read 100 books by the end of the year thing is going really well also. Currently I have read 41 books in 2010. At this rate I could hit 150 by the end of the year.
