10 (Geeky) New Years Resolutions, I would like other people to make happen.

January always inspires thoughts of new years resolutions. Whilst contemplating this year’s set of goals, it became apparent to me that my lists are very much the same from year to year, write more, get out more, dance more, play more, same old same old (boring!)

So I scrapped that idea, and thought, well what about a ‘bigger picture’ take on the whole thing. Which of course bogged me down into the realm of world peace, cure cancer, fight depression, and end world hunger. Scrapped that list also. These vital problems are too large and important for a mere January resolution list.

On the verge of abandoning the whole idea, it occurred to me that maybe I should think of this as a wish list. Pick ten really geeky and totally frivolous things I would love to see happen, however unlikely.

And so, with this post, I release my top ten picks into the geekaverse. May they show up on someone’s to do list, preferably someone who can make shit happen.

Flights of fancy, commence:

1) Apple TV adds Hulu! – Oh this would make me so darn happy. Frankly, being able to access any webpage would be fabulous. I guess I was under the impression that the Apple TV would be more like a computer, when instead it really functions as a portal. Hugely disappointing. Fix that!

2) Faction-less server in World of Warcraft. Alliance and horde play together! World peace to follow. Maybe it is just my EverQuest roots, or maybe it is my irritation with PvP, but I seriously find the whole faction thing to be a huge disadvantage. Half of the content is unavailable to my characters. And it’s a huge bummer when friends really want to play a human (alliance) yet all my characters are stuck on hoard side. We can’t even chat across factions! Lame.

3) Might as well add in World of Warcraft Free to play. It’s the direction that the industry is heading anyway. Honestly, it would probably be a great financial move for them. I would add in Star Wars going free to play also, but I’m not sure if they could afford it, considering they are already $250 million in the hole.

4) Facebook displays the rss feeds I subscribe too. This would allow me to keep tabs on pages that I like regardless of whether they have a Facebook page or not. Consolidating for the win.

5) iTunes allows for Family Sharing. I have an iTunes account, my husband has an iTunes account. Sadly never the two shall meet. No merging allowed. Oh there is the Home Sharing feature, but that is just a fancy way of forcing you to only use one account. Give me merging or linking or something!!

6) Words with Geeks – I need this app. So very much. Every time Words with Friends rejects a geeky word like ‘jedi’ or ‘tron’ or ‘zerg’ a baby geek cries.

7) Galaxy Quest 2 – The Next Generation. I’m not sure I need say anything else here. =)

8) Havoc learns about mass. The Havoc physics engine is seemingly used in every computer game and it drives me CRAZY! You know those boxes that react like they weigh as much as a pebble or the corpses that jiggle around, limbs a-flailing with every minor shove? Yeah that is Havoc. Things having mass is a concept that seems to be lost on the Havoc team. I think it is time for them to bust out their physics 101 books, because they are flunking!

9) Please please pretty please release the Ace Attorney Japanese movie in the US with good subtitles. It looks to be everything wonderful about Japanese movies combined with everything wonderful about the Ace Attorney games. I will get my grubby hands on it somehow and I would love for that way to be ‘legitimate’. Here is the youTube Trailer for the Japanese movie.

10) Greening the geek world. End on a more serious note. Geeks need to take a serious look at our wastefulness. How many DSs do I really need and what happens to them when they die? From boardgames to video game cartridges, we create a lot of waste. I would really like to see a less ‘stuff’ oriented way to distribute and far better recycling options.

There you have it; all ten displayed, dissected, and discussed. I’m quite pleased that I managed to keep the list to ten. Many more geeky wishes got sidelined. Guess they will have to wait for next year. ;)
