Day 18 – Favorite protagonist

This was another one of those categories that I seriously considered abandoning; I couldn’t for the life of me find a good answer. But I didn’t feel that I could remove protagonist without also taking out antagonist, and there was no way I was going to abandon antagonists.

So I took some time to mull over why I couldn’t find any protagonists that I favored.

In the end, the characters I liked the most were the ones I put the most effort into, my World of Warcraft characters are a good example. But I like them because the game doesn’t dictate who they are; I imbue them with impetus, drive and story. Basically I tailor my characters to be whatever I like best.

Frankly, there is no way that a character created by someone else can even compare. Inevitably those character will deviate from what I think they should do and since they aren’t really created by me I have no choice but to go along with the designer’s intentions, however grudgingly.

So in the end my first choice has always been me. (ME!) I’m my own favorite protagonist.

But I did come up with a back up character, just in case. Cate Archer of the fabulous No One Lives Forever FPS game. She is smart, capable, and delightfully witty. While the game was pretty fun, the main reason I played it was because of her and there simply aren’t many games that I play only because of the protagonist.

I’m having a similar problem with this and the ‘character I’m most like or want to be’. I think I might change one to ‘favorite version of me.’

Devon Aidendale (Mostly because I love how obscure the name is).

  3. TokenFemaleGamer Says:

Yeah I probably should have changed the ‘Character I’m most like’ category, but since I had an answer I didnt bother. Oh well.

Had to look up Devon Aidendale. Quest for Glory was another one I missed out on. =(

I’m going to counter your antagonist. En Taro Tassadar!

I like Dev’s suggestion, though, favorite version of ‘me.’

  5. TokenFemaleGamer Says:

Yeah I like the Favorite version of me as well. =D
And Tassadar, well played, well played.
