Healing my way to Tree Form!

Although I have tried a wide range of characters in World of Warcraft, I have not played a healer since beta. Strangely enough the two characters that I have leveled past fifty are both ranged DPS with pets (Hunter and Warlock). Clearly it was time to branch out!

The not playing a healer thing had a few different reasons, the most prominent being: (1) the changes to priests in beta broke my heart and I refused to play one ever again! and (2) my husband plays a holy priest as his main (making reason one very easy to uphold!). Since I enjoy playing WoW with my husband, playing another healer has seemed rather superfluous.

But recently the mood has changed around here. Husband of mine seems to want a bit of a healing break. Maybe he was jealous of my leet deeps, or he was feeling the urge to stray, whatever the case, he is happy to alt it up with me. So he is tanking while I am healing in our awesome druid duo. (Getting pick up groups has been a breeze!!)

But the best thing about being a resto druid is that I get to be in tree form. I finally made level 50 and I am LOVING tree form. The little branches, the leaf hair, the grizzled face, the cute dance, and of course a happy by product is that I’m no longer a tauren. Plus most groups only sport one tree. It makes me feel not only cute, but special (yes probably short bus special, but I will take what I can get!) =D

Healing is a rather different experience. My background is in pure DPS after all. The whole game mechanic is different (even tanking wasn’t quite as alien as all this healing business!!) The priest in my family quickly set me up with Clique and Grid, explaining that this is the ONLY way to heal. He was right (not that I have all that much experience). Although it does reduce my game experience to a little more sophisticated version of whack a mole.

Since I am so new to the whole healing thing, and since its a skill like any other (a totally foreign skill to me!), I have been focusing on practicing my healing in the pick up daily dungeon groups. Somehow I have managed to not be kicked out of a group yet, so I must be doing okay.

Its an excellent way to get exposed to variety of healing situations. And though I still sometimes click on a mob and wonder for a second how I’m supposed to damage it, its the waiting that is the most strange for me. The standing around waiting for people to die. I have been tempted to do a little DPS, and believe me the hunter and warlock in me is cringing at all the wasted standing around time, but I have been assured that the little amount of DPS I could do is far less important then being ready for an emergency heal.

Stats:
Name: Darla (After the character in Angel! The vamp woman sacrificed herself for the baby she had with Angel. She could not be more bad ass as far as I am concerned!)
Favorite shape: Tree For Life!!
Off-Spec: Feral (because I must, or so I was told.)
Race: Cow, I mean Tauren.
Mount: My little “Constellation” Pony. (Best thing about the $25 pony mount is that my little druid never has to ride a Kodo again!)

All in all I’m completely surprised that I am enjoying playing my druid so much, the healing, the leveling, the grouping, and the figuring out a whole new class. Hmmm, maybe she will be my next level 80 character. We shall see, but for now I’m just having a good time experiencing the game from a new angle.
