I feel old when most of the younger new friends that I meet only play xbox, playstation or phone games.

Right now they are far from dead, which is all that really matters to me.

As for the PC market, I think Steam makes a good argument for the PC market and its expandability. Lots of games are coming out cross platform. Will it mean the death of either medium? No clue.

Seems like the PC gaming market is still on death’s door. Or maybe it’s more accurate to say it’s been pigeonholed to a market that I don’t think will grow.

And I can’t see the console market going belly up anytime soon. I’m curious about what made you say that. Hm?

I agree. Cross-platform would be great. We’ve seen glimpses of it with Final Fantasy XI and Portal 2. Hopefully, it will become more common.

Oh the irony of it all, when just a few years ago the PC gaming market was supposedly dead. ~eye roll~
Now the console gaming market is about to go belly up. No future blah blah blah.

It would be nice if everything were a bit more cross platform. Oh well.

My bank account is very happy that I dont frequent steam very much. I pretty much only use it when I’m playing a game that seems to require it, like Civ V. =D

Yes, Steam is evil. The new free weekends are especially evil, but I have to say it’s about f’n time. The PC market has sorely needed a way to try out games without those awful limited demos.

Steam is evil. Even more evil then Xbox live. Filled with adds for more and more stuff and like you said the sales. Feeds into the ‘how can i afford not to get it’ mentality.
I have just come to the conclusion that my to play pile will just get larger. I’m not going to stress my way through each experience. That would certainly negate the whole games are fun thing.

I agree on MMOs but I’m finding myself less and less committed to playing them for years and years. Maybe I’m just in an off phase, but I the big thing that keeps me in a persistent world are my friends. Otherwise I’m happy to just experience the game for a while and then move on.

I have so many things in my ‘to play’ list, I get apathetic as well. Steam and their sales aid this as well. Why buy the game at full price, when I don’t really have time for it? At a later date, it’ll be cheaper and I might have more time for it, after knocking other games off my list.

Where MMOs are concerned, I don’t really see myself going anywhere beyond EQ2. I’ve played several over the past 12 years. Most of them are pretty much the same formula. I have only ever found a handful of people that actually stick with an MMO for very long. Unfortunately, they’re all in EQ1. I’m left with little motivation to start the leveling/questing process over again. I’ll stick with my sandbox ’til they close the park. :)

Okay being serious – I too am feeling overwhelmed but I have just met it with a ginormous amount of apathy. I am not letting myself really get sucked into new releases, and forcing myself to have priorities. Why pay, I say, for Secret World, when I can get the GW2 for free?
