Day 19 – Least favorite gameplay mechanic
The simple answer is Stealth. I am not a very patient person and have always preferred to come out guns a blazing – blaze of glory and all that.
So sitting around, hiding from guards and waiting until they path to the appropriate place so I can either sneak around them or cut their throat is about the most agonizing game play experience I can think of.
Check that, there is one thing that could make it worse, a time limit. Timed stealth encounters, two of my least favorite mechanisms at the same time. I’m getting antsy just thinking about it.
Needless to say Metal Gear Solid and I never got along well.

Collectible card based magic… for the same reason.

I have a bit of a love / hate thing going with stealth. It depends on the situation.

I have to say I have a deep love of TCGs due to M:TG. =)
And stealth has only ever been frustrating, though I have tried over and over and over, thinking maybe this next time I will have suddenly developed the patience for waiting indefinitely.

I went with mini-games here. Which is a bit too broad perhaps, and there are some that I have loved, but one stands out incredibly and that was blitzball in FFX. The introduction to it was terrible. Your first game is a hopeless match unless you got the Jecht Shot, and you were already familiar with the game (ie, playing it again.) I would have just rather have had the cutscene and got on with it.
But there are a lot of annoying mini-games. Lockpicking in Skyrim also comes to mind.

OMG the water volley ball game was TERRIBLE!!!! Thankfully it was mostly avoidable. I’m split on mini games. Sometimes they are really fun, like hacking in ME2, I actually really liked those. The probing on the other hand I didn’t like.

I hadn’t thought much about mini-games. There are some that have been really annoying, but others that I loved. Add me to the list of blitzball haters. :)
