Day 4 – Your guilty pleasure game

Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) has the immense honor of being my guilty pleasure game. While I wouldn’t really say that I feel any guilt about playing it, it isn’t a game that I like to play while people are watching. It’s my hide it away and play alone game. =)

I grew up dancing, ballet, tap, jazz, pretty much anything, and I danced a lot. So while I love games, the immobility of them sometimes gets to me.

DDR on the other hand lets me bounce around to fun music and sing along. Plus it’s a game, with various difficulties and modes. Later versions of DDR even have a sort of campaign/quest system.

Frankly it’s the best of many worlds, but mostly it just makes me happy.

This was a tough one for me. I’m not sure that I have any games that I love that would be called “bad”, and most games I get tired/bored of after enough play time, except for one (series); Civilization.

Civ is my guilty pleasure. I have spent more hours wasted in those games, especially Civ 4, which I have beat more times than I can count. I think what qualifies for guilty pleasure status is that I will make liberal use of the world editor in Civ4 (and by extension, the In Game Editor mod in Civ 5.) Cooked starts, a little “miracle” production, or just vaporizing that stupid barbarian uprising event (aka, “The Game Over Event” or “LOL Free Capital Event”) in 3200 BC. I especially get the most reply value out of the Earth18 map that came with Civ4.

So, cheating in Civ4. That’s my guilty pleasure.

That’s right. I even remember going to see you dance once.

My guilty pleasure usually comes in the form of more ‘Adult’ games. Leisure Suit Larry would be the king of the genre but there are others. But I also love all those old sierra games.

I think those would probably qualify the most for the guilty pleasure category. =P
