Earl Grey, Hot!
My Dad sent me this the other day and I found it fascinating.
It’s a clip from a show called Jay Leno’s Garage and they talk about scanning an object to create a 3D computer image and then they PRINT IT OUT!

I am left with an urge to ask for Earl Grey tea, hot of course. =D

I remember seeing a video in my high school drafting course (say 92 or 93) where they were showing the 3d printing technology. The 3d scanning tech I think might be a little newer however. If I remember correctly it involved a laser being shot into a pool of liquid plastic.

That sounds like what they are talking about. (I’m only 15 years late, but at least consistently behind the curve, hehe!)
It is quite amazing to see what it can produce and the marriage of the two product makes for quite a variety of applications. =D

It really looks like they’ve improved the technology since I saw it. Back then the 3d ‘printouts’ were really fairly fragile.
I’m suddenly reminded that I think they had something like this in ‘The Last Templar’ which was this made for TV movie recently that was supposed to be a cross between romancing the stone and the davinci code. They used it to reconstruct an elaborate decoder ring that they’d gotten an 3d x-ray of when it was checked in to the museum but subsequently had been stolen.
