Review
This is an immensely engaging game. Its simple streamlined rules and approachable look make it a great fit for all levels of players; straightforward enough for the uninitiated yet chocked full of strategic potential for anyone looking to be challenged.
Essentially it is a sequel to the original game ‘Ticket to Ride’, which featured a North American rail road map. Ticket to Ride Europe (ToRE), like the name suggests, boasts a map of European in the 1900s.
TtRE enhances the game play by adding different types of route cards, some improved rules, and my favorite new game piece: Train Stations. This wonderful new addition really cuts down on the, sometimes painful, race for specific routes. Overall it greatly increases my enjoyment of the game.
While I might consider this the superior version, the game play is essentially the same. Players still collect and play matching train cards to secure a route, the longer routes still garner more points, and the game is still won by the person with the highest score.
They kept all the fun parts of the original and enhanced them, leaving behind the games’ tendency to turn cutthroat. In no way does this mean that the game was declawed, it just means that the focus it not necessarily on trying to screw the other players. That is now left up to the people you play with.
