Since my latest review is taking (FOREVER!) a while to finish, I thought I would share this little tidbit that a friend forwarded to me.
Its a Kotaku article about a Mortal Kombat video floating around the interwebz. Supposedly people are shopping around a new take on the Mortal Kombat franchise and made this video as a demo.
Even if you aren’t a huge MK fan, this video is definitely worth checking out, its quite promising!
Our Sunday was spent amongst the mass of people, sixty thousand strong, at Maker Fair. I will venture to say that it was crowded, and it took me about an hour to find parking, but every second of discomfort was worth it to see the incredible inventions of these amazing people.
It was our first time going and we were not really prepared. Turns out almost the entire event was held outside. Yeah I read convention hall and figured no need for sunscreen and hats.
And one day? What were we thinking??? It was not nearly enough time to experiance the entire event.
We finally left the event sunburned and exhausted, but it was so incredibly worth it. People have made some crazy, ingenious, awesome, and beautiful stuff. And really I can’t not love an event where I can say: “Lets go see the burning thing over there!”
Deep Labyrinth was a husband purchase, I think. Though if I bought it, it was certainly intended for him. Which means, since the game has been hidden away in his DS case until my unearthing of all things buried, this is my first look at the actual game.
It also means I had no idea what to expect. Turns out, it is an action RPG using first person perspective, with sword fighting and magic casting.
The first person perspective makes me think of Oblivion – running around behind a floating sword, while the graphics are much more of a throwback to say HeXen days of the FPS genre.
Chances are you have already played this game; if not on the DS then probably on the Wii or GameCube. It is not terribly shocking that Mario Kart DS is just like all of its predecessors. (Take note that Mario Kart for the Wii came out three years after this DS version!)
At its core, Mario Kart is a standard racing game. The whole gang is there, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and so forth. Chose one of them and race around iconic Mario world racetracks.
What always made it incredibly fascinating for me was the focus on drifting. With three difficulty levels, mastering the drift is essential to winning, especially once the competition gets harder.
Here is a game that should have been great, it sounded great, it sold great, and it even looked great. Turns out, the idea of the game was far better than the execution.
The premise revolves around a boy character that can draw things to life. A skill he desperately needs to be able to solve all the puzzles that are popping up in his life. Each level contains a star that he must reach. If the star is on the top of a tree, he draws a ladder to life and climbs up it.
It’s a really neat idea and with over a thousand different items that register on the drawing board one would think there would be an incredible amount of flexibility and creativity involved with solving each puzzle. The thing is, I couldn’t come up with more then twenty items that were useful. Ladder, helicopter, rope, box, trashcan, ax, ramp, and rock; okay maybe more like ten items.
Its that time again where I marvel at the fact that I somehow managed to read all the books from the previous month and stare at the huge stack of books for the next month and wonder how in the hell I’m going to miss enough sleep to read them all. ~breath~
Onward! This month’s challenge has to do with book covers.
Read 3 books whose that has a single male on the cover.
Read 3 books whose that has a single female on the cover.
Read 2 books whose cover feature a couple.
Read 2 books where there is no person or human image at all.
Nostalgia is back in style and the huge success of the newest Super Mario Bros game on the Wii is a true testament to the trend. With over ten million copies sold its clear that plenty of gamers are not only pining for the less graphic intensive games of their childhood, but also appreciate excellent game play.
As a long time Mario fan I truly felt that the soul of the Super Mario games was lost once they switched to 3D. But they are finally back, in original 2D with one of their best titles since Super Mario World.
Evil never looked so cute. Or maybe cute never tried so hard to be evil. Whatever the case, cute clearly triumphs over evil in this fabulously entertaining tower defense game.
I have long been a fan of playing the dark side of things, especially when presented in a humorous light. Dungeon Keeper 2 hooked me, while Overlord cemented my devotion. FFCC – My Life as a Darklord only reaffirms that humor and evil are made to go together. Throw in some cute and it’s nigh irresistible.
January was a rousing success! Read all ten of my books, plus three more, and a few manga thrown in for good measure!
I finished early in Jan, mainly because of the moving. Now I’m into February (three days in already), ten books in a paltry 28 days, and I cant even find my books. Oh they are here somewhere, in a box. Should have been more worried about Feb. Going to have to cram to finish this month. Oh well.

November completed with flying colors (okay I actually finished the last page on the last the thirtieth, but I still finished!), its time for a brand new reading challenge in the wonderfully cold month of December! Should be interesting to see how much I actually get to reading with all the holidays and events this month is filled with.
So here are the rules for Dec ’09:
December’s challenge is called To Be Read (TBR) Clean-up Challenge.
DURATION: Dec. 1, 2009 – Dec. 31, 2009
Here are the rules:
1. Pick 9 books from your current physical TBR pile (preferably books that have been there for quite some time). Also pick 6 more books as ‘alternate’ reads just in case.
Unlike previous challenges, once you put up this list, you CANNOT CHANGE it. However, you can drop down to an alternate book, if you really cannot finish a book that you have selected in your original list. Fair enough?
Excellent Challenge as my bookshelf is starting to overflow. Here are my picks (only the most cultured literary list to be found anywhere ~snort~):
