Diablo Butcher Room
While I don’t really play scary games anymore, there are a few scary moments that have lived with me forever more.
One of them is the Butcher from Diablo. His terrifying “Fresh Meat” taunt was made even scarier by the random level design. Though he would only call out once a character entered his general vicinity, it was impossible to know where what the hell he was located. The rest of the level would see me inching along, trying desperately not to run away, but dreading the moment that the Butcher would ambush my character. This inevitable occurrence ALWAYS caught me by surprise, even though he announced himself from multiple screens away.
The other was the first Aliens Doom mod. The mod itself was fun, but the brilliant thing about it was that the entire first level was empty. I had no idea of course and was totally stressed out the entire level. Proof that my imagination is a thousand times scarier then anything anyone else can come up with.

This review, like most of them, is long overdue. The delay is mostly owing to my abandoning the game quite early on and thinking I would come back to it. Well, to be honest, requiring myself to come back, since I didn’t feel I had played enough to give it a fair review.
But it’s become quite obvious that I am not going to return and the review will have to happen regardless. Any guilt I had, has been assuaged by the eight months of subscription I have paid for a completely inactive account – its time to be done.

Mass Effect 3 is the final installment in the critically acclaimed third person role-playing game series. BioWare, creators of the franchise and no stranger to controversy, had fans in fits about the overall ending of the game.
I must admit to being wildly curious about what had created all the fuss and though I studiously avoided spoilers, it was impossible not to anticipate something about the ending being different.

I was extremely fortunate to get to view an early release of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers Movie. There is only really one thing I need to say about it, it was awesome. AWESOME!
I laughed, I cried, I cheered, but mostly I just loved every minute of the experience. If they had let me I would have watched it again, immediately.
The story did an incredibly job of forming these disparate characters into a team, while still giving each of them their moment in the light, highlighting their talents and in the end really making them work well together. That of course was the entire goal of the movie, the formation of the Avengers and it succeeds brilliantly.

I sat down in the movie theater tonight unsure what I was about to watch. Science fiction and action my husband told me, two genres I am always up for watching.
The experience turned out to be quite entertaining; lots of action, good humor, compassionate story, and really good acting.
What I find interesting about this movie is that it is based on a 1917 pulp science fiction story by Edgar Rice Burrough. Both book and movie are about a man, John Carter, who gets mysteriously transported to Mars, where his heroic journey leads him to saving the planet. Though the story must have been updated a bit, it was written almost a hundred years ago, I am really curious to see how similar the movie and book are. Going to try and find a copy of the book to read now.

Saw this over at io9, there was supposedly an R rated version of Galaxy Quest. REALLY?!??!?! Someone please please please please release a directors cut.
Its supposed to have swearing and sex scenes! Boggles the mind really.
Maybe they released the full version in japan. Tentacles are a more commonly seen movie feature over there. =P
