Look at me already being more productive! I finally updated my reading challenge for 2012 (I know, totally overdue!) and even though I managed to read 80 books last year, it only came to 25,860 pages. Bleh, that’s what I get for reading graphic novels. Ah well.
Onward to 2013s challenge, 100 books or 40,000 pages, whichever I manage first. (If last year is any indication I have no hope at 40k pages.) =P
For anyone interested to see what I have been reading, here is my book list on Goodreads.com. As for how I’m picking what to read, I’ve been following along with a few different online book cluby sort of things which are: Vaginal Fantasy Hangout, Geek Girls Book Club, and occasionally The Sword and Lazer.

Video game movie adaptations are pretty much universally terrible. Thankfully I really like bad movies, especially since many of these adaptations have crossed that line into ‘so terrible its funny’.
But there are a few that were enjoyable for simply being fun and entertaining. My favorite is probably ‘Tomb Raider’. Angelina Jolie does a great job of being an action star, and I’m always a sucker for an intelligent, kick ass, female heroine. My runners up are ‘Mortal Kombat’ and ‘Resident Evil’.
Let me clarify, these are not great movies, but they still managed to represent their games fairly well and be quite entertaining. Frankly, with the selection of game movies that are out there (~cough~ Dungeon Siege movie ~cough~) these three movies are masterpieces.
The TVtropes site has an interesting write up about why video game movies suck and how animated versions tend to be better received. Well worth a read for deeper insight.
While games don’t seem to adapt as well into other mediums, the opposite direction is often much more successful. Two of my favorites are Lego Star Wars and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. Both are super fun games that represent their various genres extremely well.

I’ve been rather busy with all sorts of other things. Holiday times and so forth. Which always makes the posting suffer.Sorry
Since I still have nothing good to post, here is this awesome tidbit. May it be wonderful once it comes out. =)
Read all about this wonderfulness at ComicsAlliance.com.
Yes look at the cuteness and ignore that I’m not getting anything done… <3

The Order of the Stick Kickstarter was my very first. Secretly I blame them for my minor Kickstarter habit, not that I’m upset about it.
What I am is super HAPPY, because my Order of the Stick package came this week!!!!!!!! Look at the awesomeness!

Coloring books, note pads, magnet, patch, graphic novel, and boardgame expansion.
This really made my week. Might be my favorite Kickstarter of all time (or thus far anyway). Now I need to go color in some stick figures. =)

Remember that small game Portal? Well one of the creators (Kim Swift) of said small game left Valve to go make a brand new game and its called Quantum Conundrum.
It was also finally released yesterday and I would be off playing it right now, only we are away from home going to a friends wedding. (Yes I brought my lap top thinking I might just get some writing in, but I was absolutely wrong. Bleh. Which just means I was having too much fun to write which is awesome.)
But back to Quantum Conundrum; a game I haven’t actually played yet, but really want to. Granted I dont make a habit out of chatting up an untested game, but this is one I have been following and looking forward to for quite a while. I’m always interested in supporting women game designers; that it’s also a puzzle game ala Portal just makes it more incredible.
The bad news, yes there is some, beyond me not being home to enjoy it as soon as possible, is that its only been released on Steam so far. Xbox and PS3 will have to wait a bit longer.
Guess I’m getting it on Steam. This will be my first Steam purchase. Yes Valve you win again. /sigh
Also Penny Arcade had this to say about Quantum Conundrum. =P

While perusing the selection at our local comic book store today, I noticed these cards laid out on the counter. They are save the date invitations. Quite a clever marketing schtick.
Maybe I am the last to get the news but Marvel is having a m/m wedding in the June edition of Astonishing X-Men (#51). Its fabulous and incredible and amazing.
Though Northstar has been openly gay for a while now (he proposed to his boyfriend Kyle in issue #50), I’m a little surprised there haven’t been more reveals. There are over 6000 Marvel Heroes. If even %0.5 of the entire selection was gay, that would still be over 30 superheroes. Granted that not all of them might feel comfortable coming out.
Whatever the case, its nice that one brave (aren’t they all supposed to be brave?) superhero has decided to declare his love.
Bravo Marvel. Bravo to writer by Marjorie Liu and artist Mike Perkins. Even superheroes should get the chance to be happy. I hope they dont pull a World War Hulk ending on the newly weds.

A while ago Disney bought Marvel for a mere $4 billion. Seemed to make sense. Balance out their predominance of Princesses with some Superheros.
Its been over two years now and I was hoping to see some impact of this merger on our trip to Disneyland. I am sad to report that there are currently no Marvel rides.
What I did find was Marvel merchandise. Although there were no Mickey Mouse dressed as Captain America cross overs. How awesome would Pooh Bear look dressed as Iron Man?! (Charles Wilson III’s Pooh as the Hulk.)

So the Order of the Stick reprint Kickstarter pledge drive finished today. What an amazing feat Rich Burlow has pulled off by raising $1,254,120. And I really mean that Mr. Burlow pulled this off because he had an unprecedented 28 updates which included new features or goals to meet.
I’m not sure that this was his strategy to begin with but adding new rewards along the way clearly worked incredibly well. It would be really interesting to see how many backers increased their pledge amount as the drive went on. I know I did. =)
Bravo Mr. Burlow! I hope this means there will be lots more Order of the Stick to come.

I’m on a serious K-drama bender right now. And before you ask, I am not Asian, not even a little bit. So how did I develop a love of the Asian persuasion? I blame Transformers.
It would probably be more accurate to say that Transformers had me primed for the anime bug to sink its teeth deep into my soul. Win for Saturday morning cartoons.
Fast forward to my teen years, I watch Akira for the very first time. Am completely clueless about plot or storyline, but generally floored by the whole experience. Of course I immediately watch it again (finally figure out what the hell is going on) and am totally hooked.
Ninja Scrolls follows as well as a bunch of fabulous Chow Yun Fat movies. At this point selection is limited (I lived in a totally boondocks town, I’m shocked they even had Ninja Scrolls) so I make due with what I can find.
Forward a bit more, I finally make it to a city that has options. Am introduced to Escaflowne, Macross Plus, Gundum, Manga and much more.
Eventually I add in live action Japanese movies and various movies/shows based on manga I liked. This also introduces me to a bunch of K-dramas (Korean dramas) based on Japanese manga. And so the story unfolds.
