Holiday Relaxings

Sunday, December 29th, 2013

Now that things are slowing down after the rush of holidays (no 12 days of Christmas for us) its time to sit back and enjoy the spoils of winter festivities. For me this mostly means getting some gaming time in and lazing around the house (aka playing 3DS while I catch up on shows. Current favorite: Continuum.)

As for presents, I don’t really have that much to report. The husband and I have a very firm no presents with each other rule. This is balanced out by the ‘we are grown ups and can buy ourselves whatever we want, when we want it’ rule; good for us, but horrible for anyone actually wanting to get us presents. Thus we avoid the gift exchange all together, when possible anyway.

Isn’t it pretty?!?

But this year my gaming buddies managed to get me something super awesome. Okay, its not gaming awesome but since I have a ‘splurging on gaming awesome’ issue, my friends had to fill in other blanks that I tend to avoid. They got me a rice cooker! But not just any rice cooker, nope, the fancy one I had been eying forever, that I just couldn’t quit bring myself to buy. Now I OWN it and rice will be the new staple at our house!

My one self purchase that I have designated as my holiday present, was this awesome N7 hoodie. I have to say I really really love it; its super stylish as well as comfortable and geeky. Though I call it my holiday gift, I actually ordered it at the beginning of December. And I’m super glad I did, as of this writing, everything but the XL is sold out. Even when I bought it the medium was sold out. I got the large instead and since I prefer to be comfy, the roominess of the large suits me well.

I hope everyone had (or is having) a fabulous winter (or summer if you happen to be on the south side of the planet) holiday season. Onward to the 2014!! <3

Happy Winter Holidays

Wednesday, December 25th, 2013

This is by far my favorite time of year, but it does get a bit busy. Lots of organizing and cooking and spending time with awesome people. And the foooood, so much good food. Tis the season to stuff my face until my stomach hurts. =D

All this eating and socializing takes time, which means less time for game playing. Its ironic of course, since this is the time for new game/console releases. ~cough~ xboxone and ps4 ~cough~ (And before you ask, no I didn’t buy either new console. No real interest.)

But its also the time when games dress themselves up in festivity (I didn’t say I was on a total game lock out). I am a total sucker for the seasons festivities, thus I am sharing some of the costume fun with you all this year.

Saddest Game Scene goes to Puzzle and Dragons

Wednesday, May 29th, 2013

A little while ago I finished the 30 Days of Video games, twice. Despite needing 60 different topics to write about, I threw out quite a few of the original list’s topics, including “Saddest Game Scene”. Frankly I thought it was a silly topic, mostly because I couldn’t come up with one single example. Well none that didn’t make me want to snort derisively anyway.

But Puzzle and Dragons changed all that. Puzzle and Dragons has officially become my choice for this tragic topic. Behold:

Only one egg can drop in each wave, so that king dragon there isn't going to drop for me.

Only one egg can drop in each wave, so that king dragon there isn’t going to drop for me.

What makes this even more tragic is that is happens ALL THE TIME!

Oh and I just found this lovely image of a Super Metal Dragon not dropping for me. This ones a keeper for sure.

Happens on Super Kings also.

Happens on Super Kings also.

Makes me cry every time.  QQ

Gaming Convalescence

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

I’m finally feeling better, which means I’m semi productive in the real world instead of only being a computer game lump. Funny how most of my illnesses end up getting cured by playing lots of computer games, and maybe a little bit of sleep.

Since I missed it, happy belated May 4th (be with you), May 5th (Cinco de Mayo), and May Sith (revenge of). There, all caught up. =D

Game productivity, on the other hand, was high!

I’m almost Puzzle and Dragons legit!

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

I’ve been playing a little bit of Puzzle and Dragons lately. Okay maybe a lot. Its an incredibly easy distraction and though I think of it as a casual game, the hours seem to slip away as I play.

What is my current goal in PnD? I’m glad you asked, since I am rather eager to share my progress. Shocking right?! But first a little lesson, short I promise! PnD is one of those games where progression eventually depends on building specific teams. There are quite a few teams that are considered basic, which is what I have been focusing on.

One of the basic teams is the Ancient Dragon Knight(ADK) paired with four Ripper Dragons. While these monsters are relatively available, they take a while to level up. Each of them has three Evolution tiers and I have finally (FINALLY!!!) reached the max evolution with my ADK and three of the Dragons (Blue, Red, Purple/Dark).

Next step is leveling my account since that will increase my total allowable team cost. Currently I can’t actually use a full ADK/Ripper team since I don’t have enough points. (My white/yellow dragon above is not fully evolved, thus it has a lower team cost.)

Anyway I’m feeling rather legitimate now with an almost complete ADK team. =D

This lead me to try one of the weekly dragon dungeons. Somewhat nerve racking, but I managed, after much grinding, to get the Ardbeg Dragon to drop for me. Very exciting, but the dragon is rather costly to use, so it will be sitting on the bench for a while. =D

My Puzzle and Dragons Snapshots

In an effort to avoid turning TFG into a Puzzle and Dragons blog, I am confining all my latest PnD stuff to one post. I’ve been saving up, be warned. =D

Getting ready for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

The release date for the Zerg expansion to StarCraft 2, Heart of the Swarm, is just around the corner. It was clearly time to get ready! Which is what I did yesterday, not that it too much time. Blizzard is incredibly efficient at taking my money. Just went online and ordered the digital collectors edition. Only reason for the collectors is BATTLE PETS!

Check out this cute little dude:

God Results

Friday, March 1st, 2013

I had two more Rare Egg pulls after Venus yesterday for God Fest in Puzzles and Dragons. One resulted in Neptune, which I already had (my only previous god). The last pull I saved for my husband since he enjoys the entire process far more.  I like making him happy, plus he seems to have crazy good luck on my account.

This is what his pull resulted in:

Though I had hoped for Hades, because God of the Underworld is too awesome to not want, the Japanese God Kagutsuchi is even better!

I think these pleasant surprises are part of what I enjoy most about the game, the chance to discover new faces and be impressed by new possibilities. Although right now I do feel a little overwhelmed by the amount of leveling and evolving my monster box has filled up with.

God Fest in Puzzles and Dragons

Puzzles and dragons venus god fest pull magic stones 1st anniversary event image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer chickPuzzles and Dragons is celebrating its one year Anniversary with God Fest! For anyone as Puzzle and Dragons obsessed devoted as me, today is the day to spend some of those magic coins and get a few extra pulls on the rare egg machine, because the drop rate on Gods has been increased. But only for today, as God Fest ends on March 1st. Almost makes me want to go buy some magic coins.

My first pull of the day resulted in Venus (love her crazy skill!) —–>

Since I am of the ‘stop while ahead’ mindset, I haven’t tried again. Will probably try again later, once I’m sure my ‘already pulled one God’ karma has worn off. =P

Anyone else pull something fun?

More EverQuest Memories!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2013

I was lucky enough to play on two different servers with two very different, yet awesome guilds. Inner Loop (last post’s pictures) ended up being my raiding guild, while Fourth Wall was my role playing guild. (Yup, I am that nerdy!)

While my bard in the Fourth Wall guild never made max level, she had a ton of really silly fun. Some of the best stories came out of spending time with these crazy people. =P

Images after the jump…

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Review (Xbox 360)

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Oblivion was quite effective at smothering any desire I might have had to play other Elder Scrolls game. Being the victim of poor character choices and frequently lost in the vast empty abyss that was the world of Oblivion (aptly named) made quitting quite easy and overlooking Skyrim easier still.

But then I finished Mass Effect 3 and found myself pining for something similar, something new. Skyrim seemed like the obvious candidate; though thinking about it now, Dragon Age probably would have been a closer match.

Whatever the case, Skyrim was recommended to me and, thanks to my fabulous friends, loaned to me, since I still couldn’t bring myself to purchase a copy. Seemed like the perfect solution as I expected to dislike the game and return it a week later.

Puzzle and Dragons – Siren the Enchanter

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

puzzle and dragons ipad game siren the enchantress image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geekI think I might have just used up all my Puzzles and Dragons luck on my last magic stone machine pull. Not that I knew it at the time and was rather disappointing to see that I had gotten Siren the Enchanter.

Turns out that she is one of the best healers in the game and I somehow managed to get the fully evolved version. Behold how I was lucky enough to twink myself.

Having her as my leader is amazing. I literally can not die. Its Puzzles and Dragons easy mode! Just don’t hate me because I’m lucky, friend me instead. =D

Diablo 3 Review

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

This must have been an incredibly difficult game to make. What a challenge to create a sequel to Diablo and Diablo 2, two of the most influential Action RPGs of our time. I do not envy them this task; especially considering the original development team was let go. It seems a rather unfair burden to place on an entirely new team.

No wonder the game was so long in development. Between the team changes and the restarts this caused, they probably could have released three games. But then this is Blizzard, which is notoriously slow; two is probably a better estimate. All things considered, I think the team did an incredible job. They released a fairly polished product after all; I just don’t think they made a Diablo Game.

New {Years} Computer

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

New Years Eve at our house has evolved into an almost forgotten holiday and thus tends to be a quite affair. Having done the whole crazy, drunk, excessive, crowded party plenty of times, I find myself quite happy to leave it all behind for some snuggling and champagne. (Really! The idea of being sandwiched in amongst thousands of drunk, sweaty bodies is singularly unappealing.)

This year I took advantage of the guaranteed quiet evening at home and built myself a new computer.

For anyone who hasn’t kept up with my sporadic posting, my husband built himself a new computer as an anniversary present. And though I claimed that I would wait for a new computer until our next anniversary (I tried to wait, I really did!), I only made it as far as the New Year.

Monk(ee) Business

Friday, January 18th, 2013

world of warcraft pandarian monk verina level 45 image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geekIt’s probably worth noting that my lack of writing motivation has been somewhat supported by my newest World of Warcraft endeavor, a Pandarian Monk. The original plan hadn’t really involved getting quite so attached, as I made her mainly to get the Pandarian only battle pet. (Gotta chatch them all!)

Yet I was having such a good time playing this new little monk character, that I just kept on going, even after securing the pet. Leveling her has been a breeze. Not only does she have 45% bonus experience from heirloom items (thanks to my higher level characters), but she also gets a unique to monk super buff that gives her 50% bonus experience for up to two hours. It’s the fastest leveling to date and I have to say that I am quite enjoying it!

As of this writing my monk is level 45 and though I have mostly run dungeons with her thus far, I have spent her 40s in Feralas hunting for the illusive Sprite Darter world drop pet. No luck thus far. I shall of course continue to use her leveling as an excuse to mine for pets. I even chose her professions for pet gain, jewelry and mining.

Anyway that’s a rather long-winded way of saying, monk leveling is fun, but I’m not giving up pet collecting or my warlock quite yet. Though I have to say that my poor warlock has been having the worst luck with loot upgrades. She keeps on getting only glove upgrades. Ah well.
