Works in Progress, aka Kickstarter

Tuesday, January 28th, 2014

For a complete update on my current kickstarter status, we must take a look at my three most recently supported projects, which are all still in progress. (Hint: Plenty of time for you all to pledge.)

women destroy scifi book collection female authors kickstarter image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd gaming love“Women Destroy Science Fiction! is a special issue of the Hugo Award-nominated magazine LIGHTSPEED entirely written—and edited—by women. LIGHTSPEED MAGAZINE’s June 2014 issue—our fourth anniversary issue—will be a Women Destroy Science Fiction! special issue. And we will also—for the first time in LIGHTSPEED’s history—have a guest editor at the helm.” WOMEN DESTROY SCIENCE FICTION! Kickstarter

My Thoughts: Supporting women science fiction authors galore. More please.

Cusomisable 3d mini figures via website kickstarter image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd gaming love“Hero Forge is a service that lets you design custom tabletop minis, have them 3D printed, and delivered right to your doorstep. By using a sophisticated parts system and web UI, we’re bringing the flexibility, ease, and control of a robust video game character creator to the tabletop.” Customizable 3D Printed Tabletop Miniatures Kickstarter

My Thoughts: If this really works, it might just be the best new minis source of all time. I have lost track of how many times I was unable to find a mini to accurately represent my RPG character. This is mostly because of my usually female character choice, but also because of the limited race/class combinations.

Icarus graphic Novel kickstarter image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd gaming love“An original graphic novel from Gregory Wilson and Matt Slay about a being who falls from the sky to save a world from tyranny.” Icarus: A Graphic Novel Kickstarter

My Thoughts: This is actually a friend of mine’s project. While I always like to support my friends, it really helps when they are super talented (as is the case here!!)

Well that wraps up all my kickstarter stuff. At least I have caught up on one topic. Weeeee.

Happy Winter Holidays

Wednesday, December 25th, 2013

This is by far my favorite time of year, but it does get a bit busy. Lots of organizing and cooking and spending time with awesome people. And the foooood, so much good food. Tis the season to stuff my face until my stomach hurts. =D

All this eating and socializing takes time, which means less time for game playing. Its ironic of course, since this is the time for new game/console releases. ~cough~ xboxone and ps4 ~cough~ (And before you ask, no I didn’t buy either new console. No real interest.)

But its also the time when games dress themselves up in festivity (I didn’t say I was on a total game lock out). I am a total sucker for the seasons festivities, thus I am sharing some of the costume fun with you all this year.

Behold Squirrel Girl Elf and Holiday Hulk (from Marvel Heroes Online):

The Party before the Playoffs

Thursday, December 12th, 2013

Its Thursday, that magical day that kicks off another weekend of Fantasy Football. But this week is special because its finally Week 15, better known as the Quarterfinals in the Playoff Extravaganza!! Thats right, only three more weekends until the 2013 Fantasy Football Champion is determined.

And guess who is going into this championship ranked in second place, with nine wins and five losses, that’s right, ME!

fantasy football week 14 win image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd gaming loveThis is where I would talk about my very in depth strategy and how my countless hours of football watching and stats monitoring have paid off, but that’s simply not how it works. While I have learned a lot about football in the past years, thanks to this fantasy football league, I still rely mostly on luck and expert suggestions for team selections. I don’t have a huge amount of time to research a bunch of football stuff, but more importantly I enjoy reveling in the surprise victories.

Like last week; my team really pulled out all the stops. Its these weeks that keep me coming back to play Fantasy Football each year. These unexpected moments of brilliance.  Well this is what I tell myself anyway, since I have yet to end up with a point hog like Payton Manning on my team. =P

Will let you know how the playoffs turn out. My hope is to not get eliminated in the first round, but ya never know. =D

I’m in Second Place!

Saturday, November 16th, 2013

This weekend marks the beginning of week 11 of Fantasy Football and I find myself (miraculously) in second place! See, see, see:
second place in fantasy football league week 11 image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd gaming loveThe Fantasy Football Gods have been smiling down on me (its the only logical explanation) since my past two week win streak has nothing to do with my own team performing exceptionally well, but is instead due to my opponents failing miserably.

As it turns out, my team’s mediocre performance still counts as a win, if my opponent tanks it. Woot!!

At this rate, I might even make the play offs, though nothing is locked in place yet. My team is still only 6-4, which is a rather poor record for second place. Then again the next seven ranked teams are 5-5, so this week could see an entire reshuffling of the ranks. Except first place, which is held by the newest member of our FF league. Rookie year with a 9-1 record thus far. I am just going to go with beginners luck, until further years of data gathering prove me wrong. =P

Fantasy Football Update

My week 8 team. Note all the people on Bye. I dont forsee a win this week either. /sigh

My week 8 team. Note all the people on Bye. I dont forsee a win this week either. /sigh

No news in the case of Fantasy Football is not good news. The past five weeks have resulted in two wins and three losses, leaving my score mid season at 3 wins and 4 losses. My team is currently in 10th place (out of 12 /sob).

So not looking good. Part of the issue was that I stuck with Colin Kaepernick longer then I should have due to his amazing opening game. He has not been scoring anywhere near as high since that first game. I finally switched to Philip Rivers three weeks ago, who isn’t amazing, but at least he isn’t getting negative points.

My other weak point was my kicker. I didn’t even know kickers could get negative points. Well they can and he did and thus got traded. HA!

But probably my teams current biggest weakness is a serious lack of Wide Receivers who score decent points. This of course is not helped by Reggie Wayne messing up his knee last weekend and taking himself out for the rest of the season. He was my highest earning WR. Really how could he do this too me?!!?!? (I kid, I kid. I hope he recovers well. Knee injuries suck.)

Anyway my Fantasy Football season has been quite dissapointing. Ah well. I still have Animal Crossing New Leaf, they love me there. =P

The Week I Chose Poorly…

Wednesday, September 18th, 2013

fantasy football yahoo week 2 results loss image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd i love gamingWeek two of Fantasy Football did not work out well for me. I might have started out strong, but my hand picked team of spandex wearing dudes did not perform as expected in week 2, especially a certain QB. ~cough~Kaepernick~cough~

Though I should probably take the blame for my abysmal loss in week 2 (yeah right, nothing in sports is ever the fan’s fault), I’m going to go ahead and blame the Seahawk’s Defense. Next time you play the 49rs, please don’t be so darn effective. =P

But Quarter Back wasn’t my only poor choice, every single Wide Receiver was a bad choice. Thankfully I swapped out my TE (as per suggestion) and he totally kicked ass, as did my Defensive player, Aldon Smith. Then again, he was almost the only good thing about the 49rs vs. Seahawks game anyway. <3 Aldon Smith!!

Now to find better WR for week 3. ~sigh~

Still Gaming

Tuesday, August 20th, 2013

I might have implied, in my previous post, that quitting various time intensive games had opened up quite a bit of free time. Even though the idea was to fill said extra time with things other then games, I failed to find anything as riveting. And really, what else is there anyway? (<— DO NOT ANSWER! Rhetorical Question!)

What have I been playing then? Well according to Raptr, mostly Animal Crossing New Leaf. Which is pretty accurate. I have given up sleeping and instead I work on my town. I have majorly responsibilities after all.

My MMO needs have been filled by Marvel Heroes. So. Much. Fun. But then I’m a huge action RPG fan and possibly just a slight bit biased. Just a smidgen. Besides who doesn’t like playing a flaming angel of death?

marvel heroes jean grey phoenix form image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd i love gaming

Jean Grey is SUPER fun to play with her Phoenix form (aka flaming angel of death). But this game encourages altaholics, so I dabble. Played some Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Deadpool, Human Torch, and Storm. I do hope to try them all. Though at this rate, new characters will get released faster then I can keep up.

These two games are definitely my biggest time sinks, though there are a few other games that I’ve been playing. ShadowRun Returns, the game I kickstarted, was released. Quite nostalgic really. Installed Guild Wars 2 again and am whiling away some time in that world. Tried out Neverwinter Nights, but doubt I will spend much more time on it.

There you have it. Sums up the past few months of gaming quite well. I’m as time invested as ever, just not on WoW. =P

Anything else I should be investing time in?

Saddest Game Scene goes to Puzzle and Dragons

Wednesday, May 29th, 2013

A little while ago I finished the 30 Days of Video games, twice. Despite needing 60 different topics to write about, I threw out quite a few of the original list’s topics, including “Saddest Game Scene”. Frankly I thought it was a silly topic, mostly because I couldn’t come up with one single example. Well none that didn’t make me want to snort derisively anyway.

But Puzzle and Dragons changed all that. Puzzle and Dragons has officially become my choice for this tragic topic. Behold:

Only one egg can drop in each wave, so that king dragon there isn't going to drop for me.

Only one egg can drop in each wave, so that king dragon there isn’t going to drop for me.

What makes this even more tragic is that is happens ALL THE TIME!

Oh and I just found this lovely image of a Super Metal Dragon not dropping for me. This ones a keeper for sure.

Happens on Super Kings also.

Happens on Super Kings also.

Makes me cry every time.  QQ

One year Raptr

TFG Raptr stats on May 8th 2013

As of today, I have officially been a Raptr member for an entire year. Though I originally created the account to help me keep track of game played times, and it does that decently well, its keeps track of all sorts of other useless information, like achievements and types of games played.

I have to admit I find the break downs of all my games quite fascinating. Not sure what it says about me, other then I have played a lot (a LOT) of World of Warcraft.

Turns out that I have played 1,128 hours of games in the past year, which is exactly 47 days. That’s quite a bit more then I expected. From what I can tell that encompasses 35 different games. Also more then I expected.

Maybe in the coming year I will finally use those game hours for something productive, like find a cure for boredom. Oh wait. Already did. Ha!

Geek and Sundry Season 2

Monday, April 29th, 2013

geek and sundry youtube channel your judgement is not my problem taking back the geek titel - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd i love gamingIn other fabulous April news (quick before the month is over!), Geek and Sundry has  been renewed for season 2 and its already begun airing brand new shows!! The announcement went live very close to April 1st, thankfully it wasn’t a joke and Geek and Sundry will remain alive and youtubing for another year. (Yes, I just turned youTube into a verb!)

Much of the show line up has changed and though I’m sad to see Sword and Laser go, I am super happy that Space Janitors finally has new episodes. It is by far the most entertaining show I’ve seen on youTube, probably ever. Then again I don’t go in for most of the reality based stuff that youTube panders.

But the best thing to come out of this announcement was the message that Felicia Day shared in her announcement video. After lamenting the commodification and hate mongering that has become the Geek online life, she made a call for taking it back, to honor the Geek we want to be regardless of anyone else’s opinion. “Your Judgment is not my problem” sums is up quite well and is a sentiment that I can fully support. Go Felicia Day!

Not Aprils Fools, really?

Friday, April 5th, 2013

April Fools Day online is great, because I get to observe without having to participate. Plus most of the online jokes tend to be funny and avoid being cruel. It also means that around mid march I start becoming suspicious of all news announcements that seems even a little strange.

Of course when April Fools Day does roll around and all the jokes are revealed, they inevitably only show up on the actual day and mysteriously vanish the next. I know this, yet still harbor a little bit of doubt, or maybe hope, each year.

Here are my top four “Let this be an April Fools joke” pieces of gaming news.

SimCity is most unplayable single player game of all time.

LucasArts gets Disneyed, I mean shut down.

Blizzard announces a card game….to play online. An online card game. Like Magic the gathering. Online. Still waiting for them to say this is a joke.

My World of Warcraft Warlock’s dps. Its a joke, sadly not relegated to April Fools Day only. Not news so much as QQ. >_<

As for ‘real’ April Fools, youTube was the clear 2013 winner. Best contest ever!

Any news items you think should have been an April Fools Joke or at least sounded like one?

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Review (PC)

Friday, March 8th, 2013

Mist of Pandaria (MoP) is the latest expansion to the ever popular World of Warcraft Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. With a brand new continent, new playable race and class, new talents for all classes, Pokemon and Farmville, the ever expanding world of Azeroth has gotten just a bit more crowded.

Following a rather extensive WoW break, I dived into Pandaria with tempered enthusiasm. Between the disappointing Cataclysm end game and Pandas becoming the new playable race (Blizzard swore that would NEVER ever happen), I found my expectations understandably depressed.

But now, with a little over four hundred hours under my belt, it’s quite clear that I liked the game better then expected and that a review is far past due.

Getting ready for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

The release date for the Zerg expansion to StarCraft 2, Heart of the Swarm, is just around the corner. It was clearly time to get ready! Which is what I did yesterday, not that it too much time. Blizzard is incredibly efficient at taking my money. Just went online and ordered the digital collectors edition. Only reason for the collectors is BATTLE PETS!

Check out this cute little dude:

500 Post Updates

Saturday, January 5th, 2013

Keeping on track with ‘Another 30 days of Video Games’ took rather a lot of focus, pairing that with the holidays meant that there wasn’t a lot of spare time for various other updates. Plus it seemed so much more cohesive to keep the posts contiguous. Thus this update post, starting with Happy Winter Holidays. (Yes its a little late, sorry.)

My end of season fantasy football team.

My end of season fantasy football team.

Another big marker, that I completely spaced on, is that I hit 500 posts! Well actually this will be the 506th, which makes the 500th post day 56 in my last thirty days. That’s a lot, and frankly I’m quite proud of myself.

On a slightly less heroic note, Fantasy Football finished a few weeks ago and though I made the play offs, my team ended up seventh out of eight. So many injuries and I could not get quality players to replace them. But I was in second place for a bit, there in the middle of the season. Woot!

And lastly, World of Warcraft raiding has begun. Thankfully its only one day a week so far, but filled with lots of dying and a little bit of success. We are running Mogu’Shan Vaults 10 player normal. Its been an interesting shift in strategy. Many of the fights really depend heavily on tank competence, while the rest of us merely need to not stand in shit.

I guess I’m not really sure why they decided to make tank raiding harder. Were tanks bored?  Aren’t they one of the fewest played classes in the game? Making it harder doesn’t seem to really be the answer to dwindling numbers. I don’t play a tank, and after raiding in Panda for a bit, I’m really glad that I’m sticking with DPS. Easy mode!

Thats it for now. I’m sure I will come up with some other stuff eventually. Oh, maybe some shots of dead WoW raid bosses. =P

Day 56 – Instanced or not instanced

Wednesday, December 26th, 2012

world of warcraft instanced dungeon finder mists of pandaria image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geekInstancing is a phenomenon of the persistent online multiplayer worlds of gaming, where segregating players into their own separate versions of the game creates the illusion of privacy, or change.

Despite my preference for multiplayer, I don’t actually like the ‘random other people showing up in my game’ all that much. More often then not his or her presence actually impedes my own progress, never mind the total jerks who enjoy making everyone else’s experience miserable (and we know the online gaming world is rife with those types).

This is one of the main reasons why I favor instanced. Having the option to literally block all the random people out of existence is a wonderful thing.

But its not simply about privacy, instancing has also allowed for less persistence in MMORPGs, where the world can change slightly for each single character, or allow for an entire personal storyline to unfold.

It’s a powerful tool that has been able to tackle some of the worst problems of required persistence in online MMORPGs. Every time I remember the three am wake up calls to go raid that stupid world spawn, I thank my lucky stars that someone invented instancing.
