January always inspires thoughts of new years resolutions. Whilst contemplating this year’s set of goals, it became apparent to me that my lists are very much the same from year to year, write more, get out more, dance more, play more, same old same old (boring!)
So I scrapped that idea, and thought, well what about a ‘bigger picture’ take on the whole thing. Which of course bogged me down into the realm of world peace, cure cancer, fight depression, and end world hunger. Scrapped that list also. These vital problems are too large and important for a mere January resolution list.
On the verge of abandoning the whole idea, it occurred to me that maybe I should think of this as a wish list. Pick ten really geeky and totally frivolous things I would love to see happen, however unlikely.
And so, with this post, I release my top ten picks into the geekaverse. May they show up on someone’s to do list, preferably someone who can make shit happen.
Watch me procrastinate some more. =P
Actually these were some of the links I had saved up for a while. Might as well post them. Yaay FB, my source for fabulous, strange, and enthralling tidbits.
George Takai, the broker of space peace. Star Wars and Star Trek need no longer fight, because there is a new enemy in town. /bow Mr. Takai. Well played. http://www.youtube.com/embed/mvTCr5Z-0lA
I fight Dragons – The Geeks will inherit the earth. Best geek song I have heard in a while. ‘I Fight Dragons’ is actually the name of the band. Awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Do61etbvpa4
Santa brought me a new Xbox 360, which should be good right? It is, in that I can finally finish Portal 2. But I’m still bummed that our old Xbox which had so little actual run time, crapped out. I don’t relish giving more money to a company that made such a crappy product.
While the new Xbox is actually really great (pains me to say). It is far smaller, much cuter, and so unexpectedly quiet. But it also didn’t have any of my saved games on it. Get this, to get my saved games off of my old Xbox I would have had to purchase a special wire to facilitate the transfer. More money to Microsoft? Hell No! Thankfully a friend of ours offered to download all the hard drive content to a USB drive. So now I really can finish Portal 2.
Santa’s gift, though mostly necessary, wasn’t really what I wanted. Thankfully my family came through with these awesome Star Wars lunch boxes. I might just have to find some excuse to go back to school. Picnic maybe?
To go along with the lunch boxes, were Marvel and Star Wars cookie cutters. My holiday baking will obviously have to continue!
SWTOR was released yesterday. The official ‘buy it in the store’ version; the beta has been floating around a while now. Never had the time to play it in beta, even though I got a few invites.
A new MMORG always has me hesitating. It’s a big commitment and most of them are just so disappointing, its better to set expectations low to avoid total heartbreak. But the husband wanted to try it, so I went out and picked up two copies yesterday.
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s Star Wars (HAHAHAHAHAHA!) Then again they could be talking about dirty socks and it would be funny. http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1949406
There is nothing quite as rejuvenating as a fabulously large comic book (and more) convention only thirty minutes from my house. WonderCon is so close I don’t have to fly anywhere, stay in expensive hotels, and curb spending because my carrying capacity on the plane is limited. All the fun without any of the drawbacks. Certainly one of the huge perks of city living, one that I would be remiss in not enjoying to the fullest.
Bust out all those Star Wars tee shirts and let geek pride shine. =)
<3 TFG
ps. I spent quite a bit of time trying to find an actual star wars shirt today. Turns out I don’t own any. FOR SHAME!! So I’m borrowing one of my husbands shirts. Not passing up on this!
Legos are quite the event at our house. For my husband it’s the hobby of choice, second only to computer games. Put Star Wars and Lego together, you get a veritable orgy of giddy joy.
Most of the lego-gasm results now decorate our house, the easiest (and safest) place to keep them being the top of shelves. Sharing the Lego love seemed like a good follow-up the Lego Star Wars Game Review.
It might be apparent that all of the sets we have are old school Star Wars only. The banning of episode 1-3 runs even to Lego. Although its not something I am going to argue with, since we are seriously running out of display room. In fact my husband has relegated the unfinished (super huge) Millennium Falcon set to the garage, because we have no place to put it.
I’m limiting the pictures to Star Wars sets only (and not even all of them!) Maybe at this winter I can convince my husband to set up the Lego trains.
