Not Aprils Fools, really?

Friday, April 5th, 2013

April Fools Day online is great, because I get to observe without having to participate. Plus most of the online jokes tend to be funny and avoid being cruel. It also means that around mid march I start becoming suspicious of all news announcements that seems even a little strange.

Of course when April Fools Day does roll around and all the jokes are revealed, they inevitably only show up on the actual day and mysteriously vanish the next. I know this, yet still harbor a little bit of doubt, or maybe hope, each year.

Here are my top four “Let this be an April Fools joke” pieces of gaming news.

SimCity is most unplayable single player game of all time.

LucasArts gets Disneyed, I mean shut down.

Blizzard announces a card game….to play online. An online card game. Like Magic the gathering. Online. Still waiting for them to say this is a joke.

My World of Warcraft Warlock’s dps. Its a joke, sadly not relegated to April Fools Day only. Not news so much as QQ. >_<

As for ‘real’ April Fools, youTube was the clear 2013 winner. Best contest ever!

Any news items you think should have been an April Fools Joke or at least sounded like one?

Heroes of Metro City – A Super-Powered Deck Building Game!

Thursday, September 13th, 2012

Behold the newest Kickstarter I threw money at. In their words: “Be the Hero — defeat the Archenemy before Metro City is destroyed! Choose your own combination of super-power cards as you play.”

Basically it is a super hero game that uses deck building for powers, to represent Enemies, and for resources. This really sounds like it could be a fun and interesting card game, but what I like about it most is that it is cooperative. Super Hero Team game; each game will require a super hero team name, official house rule!

Another little tidbit that caught my eye was that they are building quite a bit of randomness into the game. Though players get to chose some of their powers, random ones will be assigned. Could be quite entertaining to figure out how to make various powers work well together.

Something to look forward too, especially since the project is already fully funded. Anything extra at this point is just gravy.

Happy 2012 Everyone!

Ringing in the new year with warm chocolate chip cookies, champagne, and the new World of Warcraft TCG Dungeon Decks. Playing the Goblin Shaman in Shadowfang Keep. Really great cooperative play, makes this a really fun game experience.

Things I found on FaceBook

Monday, November 15th, 2010

I might think of Facebook as a rather pointless time sink, but it does have some great features, like finding age old friends and keeping track of said friends. But what I enjoy the most is all the random stuff people share. Its a little window into strange and new webstuffs. =)

Sometimes its stuff that’s totally worth sharing.

Totally fun band that does great covers. Awesome!

Elder Dragon Highlander – a different way to play Magic: TG. Sounds fun. Now if only I could get someone to play with me. =)

Priestess of the Nerds

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

A dear friend and geek pal of mine recently moved away. Like all true hardcore geek friends, we met online. We used to play EverQuest together (back in the day when role-playing was still cool).priestess of the nerds WoW tcg fake card - token female gamer - girl gamer

Eventually it was discovered that we lived in the same general area. Not close enough to hang out all the time, but close enough to play some decent D&D every month or so.

And then he up and moved (and I haven’t played D&D since!!!! Damn j00!) Something about job relocation and buying a house, you know, extremely mature reasons. Of course I am supremely happy for him about all the positive stuff, but I’m sad I lost a geek friend. They are hard to come by, for me anyway, and for him apparently also.

Culdcept Saga review (xBox 360)

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

I love getting games as presents and when said game turns out to be a) one I don’t own and 2) one I really like, it’s a near miracle. Turns out, Culdcept Saga is such a miracle.

The fabulous friend, who gifted us this excellent experience, knew that waiting would just not do. So he presented it at the first available opportunity. It was just some random day, but I have since dubbed it “Culdcept is Awesome!” Day. (And like most holidays/birthdays/anniversaries I never remember the actual date!!)

This thing is, even though the game arrived with such fan fare I didn’t believe it was going to be that great (because, really, how often does it happen that a fabulous game gets shoved in your face?), so it just sat around for a while (sad and lonely).

After the third call from my friend asking how I thought the game was, I finally popped it into the xBox and started playing. I devoured it whole.

Chocobo Tales Review (DS)

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

My Impressions

I love Final Fantasy. This means that when something is associated with Final Fantasy I perk up and listen – that’s great marketing at work! Yes, I am brainwashed by the Final Fantasy MAN! (Or they just make great games….not quite as dramatic as brainwashing though.)

Now that hasn’t always worked out for me. Some products end up being duds (~cough~ FFX ~cough~) but usually I like what I get. That’s why, when I saw Chocobo tales it was almost an automatic decision that I should get it.
