The Official Last Post!

Tuesday, January 27th, 2015

Time to make it official, this is the last Token Female Gamer post. I would like to say its a hiatus, but I am quite positive this is the end. Its been a wonderful seven years of writing and though I shall no longer post, I will keep the blog around for posterity.

As for me its time to focus on other things. Its been a pleasure. Thank you! <3TFG

Server Crashes

Friday, January 24th, 2014

In exciting website news, the server that this little blog lives on crashed a horrible death of massive server collapse. Thankfully, my host service (Dreamhost), was on the job and managed to somehow save all my data and get the site back up and running.

For a second there I pondered having to start afresh, but as you can see, no need for hysterics, everything is restored. Well technically I do have backups of a sort, nothing easy like one click install, but worst case I could rebuild a bunch, it would just take forever.

Turned out be quite well timed for me as I was down with the flu for the past week, which meant lots and lots of sleeping and very little of anything else. Oh, there was also some Animal Crossing, ok lots of Animal Crossing. ;)

Feeling much better today, finally after seven days. The site was fixed just in time.

Resolutions and Geekolutions

Tuesday, January 14th, 2014

Quick, quick, I need to make some resolutions before the end of January. Yup, I’m procrastinating on making resolutions which I will eventually also find excuses to avoid. Nonono, this year will be different, because…because…because Captain Picard said “Make it so!”

Okay so I don’t really have any resolutions for this year, mainly because I already have lots of things I want to work on but haven’t quite found enough time or motivation. Thus I’m turning my resolution list into my ‘to do’ wish list for 2014.

It is my hope that sharing this list of ‘wishful intentions’ will help me stay motivated, which will hopefully lead to productivity. Its the ‘I already talked about it so I must do it’ self guilt trip that I am hoping will compensate for my high skill at procrastination. (I win at procrastination! Wee!)

Okay starting with the website:
-Finish reviewing all the games on my list . (Eeek!)
-Site redesign and update, hopefully with integrated tumblr.
-Make a video, try anyway. =P
-Podcast some fiction. This one is a long shot.
-Update a bit more. Vague, should be easy to follow.
-Try not to get burned out.

Stopping there, before I completely freak myself out. =)

Oh, but must add a few more personal ones:
-Read 100 books, or 30,000 pages, or both.
-Watch more anime. I have a whole list to get through.

Though I try to start each year with new goals, I found a little extra inspiration from Geek and Sundry this year. They came out with a video last month talking about all of their ‘Geekolutions’, which is just what you would expect it to be, geeky resolutions.

While most of my resolutions are pretty geeky already, one interesting suggestion popped up, the 10×10 challenge on The idea is to pick ten board games and play each of them ten times. That is a huge commitment, but one I am sorely tempted to try. Mostly because I have this huge problem with buying new boardgames, despite having an overwhelming amount of games to play. Attempting this challenge might just help curb my spending on boardgames affliction. But then which boardgames do I pick, and who would play the same ten boardgames with me over and over again? Am going to have to think about this one for a while, maybe a whole year. =P

Happy New Year Everyone. (Look I procrastinated so long that I managed to post in between Gregorian New Year and Chinese New Year. Covering all my bases.)

Happy New Year and 2013 Retrospective!

Sunday, January 5th, 2014

captain picard dont wish for a great 2014, make it so image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd gaming loveIt’s officially 2014! Happy New Year everyone! Lets hope for great things to come, or better yet, take a note from the fabulous Captain Picard and make it so! I have to say that I am finding this to be excellent advice and am using it as motivation to work on various projects I have been thinking about for a while now.

But enough about the future, there is all of 2014 ahead to make plans (see me already procrastinating). Properly closing out 2013 calls for a retrospective, or at least a rundown of stats. =)

2013 TFG numbers:

66 posts
5 reviews
18 unreviewed games. ~sigh~
1132 gaming hours tracked
236 Books read, which amounts to 54,325 pages.

Not really as bad as I had expected, especially since I suffered a major “I dont wanna” episode (aka writing burn out!) in 2013. Though I don’t think I can maintain the 10-30 posts a month, I have recovered enough that I am actually looking forward to updating a bit more frequently. Maybe time to tackle that not reviewed list. Eek.

Clearly I played enough games, with just over 47 days (1132hours/24days) of gaming time clocked on raptr. Well that answers the mystery of what I was doing instead of writing reviews, gaming and reading books.

Yes, many books, many pages. Of course, over one hundred of the 236 I read are manga, and though I don’t want to disparage graphic novels, because I love them, I can finish one 200-page manga a bit faster then a comparably long novel. And I’m a fast reader, so maybe the numbers make the time commitment seem a bit more extravagant.

Well that sums up 2013 neatly, mostly anyway, since I didn’t keep track of boardgames at all. Suffice it to say that my collection has grown.

But onward to 2014, the future is here!!

I’m in Second Place!

Saturday, November 16th, 2013

This weekend marks the beginning of week 11 of Fantasy Football and I find myself (miraculously) in second place! See, see, see:
second place in fantasy football league week 11 image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd gaming loveThe Fantasy Football Gods have been smiling down on me (its the only logical explanation) since my past two week win streak has nothing to do with my own team performing exceptionally well, but is instead due to my opponents failing miserably.

As it turns out, my team’s mediocre performance still counts as a win, if my opponent tanks it. Woot!!

At this rate, I might even make the play offs, though nothing is locked in place yet. My team is still only 6-4, which is a rather poor record for second place. Then again the next seven ranked teams are 5-5, so this week could see an entire reshuffling of the ranks. Except first place, which is held by the newest member of our FF league. Rookie year with a 9-1 record thus far. I am just going to go with beginners luck, until further years of data gathering prove me wrong. =P

Game Changers

Tuesday, August 13th, 2013

Getting back in the habit of writing is proving more difficult then anticipated. Six years of good habit, ruined by a few months of reckless abandonment. All my writing aspirations extinguished on the great bonfire of failure. Behold the end of my writing career. Oh World, how you have failed me!!!

At least my sense of the dramatic hasn’t left me. =D

Beyond the death of my writing skillz, my summer vacation created massive upheaval in my gaming habits. At one point I even thought I would take a break from gaming. ~gasp~ The horror!! Thankfully I came to my senses and after a short hiatus decided I simply needed a new gaming direction.

Finally canceling my World of Warcraft accounts is by far the biggest change. You heard me, as of August 2013 my WoW accounts are officially in the ‘not paying for it anymore’ category. After eight solid years of subscribing, it was time to part ways.

The husband had quit just a few months ago, and though I hung on to raid and collect pets, not playing with him certainly helped turn my burn out into permanence. Besides, I don’t miss it, just miss the people. =/

Puzzles and Dragons became my second victim on the chopping block. Considering that it is a free to play IOS game, it takes up waaaay to much time, energy, and money to play. Thus bye bye PnD. I really dont miss you at all.

Its amazing how much more time I have, just by cutting out those two games. Not that I am doing anything very productive. Animal Crossing New Leaf came out after all.

Damn, its August already!

Friday, August 2nd, 2013

So my June vacation somehow morphed into a Summer J-month holiday. While that certainly wasn’t my original intention, entropy set in and now its August. High time to deal with my total lack of posting.

Even though my vacation was less ‘lay on the beach’ relaxing then I would have liked, (too many personal issues unrelated to TFG cropped up) it was quite nice to not have the constant ‘must post’ reminder going off in the back of my mind. Writing has never been very natural for me, which was one of the big reasons I started TFG, to hopefully lesson that struggle. And it has, but it turns out that not writing at all is even easier!

I have been at this for around six years now, longer then most people work at McDonalds and they get paid more. Okay that’s a bit unfair since I never intended to make money at this. But the question still remains, continue onward or not.

And though the answer back at the beginning of July would have been a firm no, I find myself, here at the beginning of August, not really wanting to completely walk away from my past six years of work. But I was sort of stressing myself out trying to keep the post count up, so I’m hoping to have the best of both worlds. Continuing onward, but most likely fewer posts.

Time off was great, but I’m glad to be back, until the next burn out anyway. =P

(side note – J really made out in the first letter in the months of the year category. Probably the only thing its ever won.)

June Vacation

Saturday, June 8th, 2013

I think I’m just going to go ahead and call June my vacation from everything. Maybe I can catch up a bit. =P

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013

Well, my previous post turned out to be more true then I expected. Puzzle and Dragons continues to keep me quite locked up. And true to form, after such a long binge, I am getting quite burned out, on everything video games.

I think it might be time for me to risk the outside world for a bit. So much to see after all, or so they tell me anyway.

Further proof that Puzzle and Dragons has taken over my life

puzzle and dragons log in day 100 bonus obsessed sigh - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd i love gaming

This actually happened yesterday, but since it was already deemed Raptr anniversary, I decided to hold my PnD crazy until today.

100 consecutive log in days, sort of speaks for itself. I might as well just admit to having ever so slight of a Puzzle and Dragons obsession. Bonus was that they gave me 10 free magic stones, which I already spent. Nothing noteworthy.

It might be entertaining to muse about how my next PnD update will be on day 200, but it would all be lies. We all know that its a running Puzzle and Dragons commentary around here. I just can’t help myself and since its my blog, I can spew PnDness as much as I want. HA!

One year Raptr

tfg on raptr may 8th stats image - token female gamer girl gamer woman gamer geek gamer nerd i love gaming

TFG Raptr stats on May 8th 2013

As of today, I have officially been a Raptr member for an entire year. Though I originally created the account to help me keep track of game played times, and it does that decently well, its keeps track of all sorts of other useless information, like achievements and types of games played.

I have to admit I find the break downs of all my games quite fascinating. Not sure what it says about me, other then I have played a lot (a LOT) of World of Warcraft.

Turns out that I have played 1,128 hours of games in the past year, which is exactly 47 days. That’s quite a bit more then I expected. From what I can tell that encompasses 35 different games. Also more then I expected.

Maybe in the coming year I will finally use those game hours for something productive, like find a cure for boredom. Oh wait. Already did. Ha!

Gaming Convalescence

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

I’m finally feeling better, which means I’m semi productive in the real world instead of only being a computer game lump. Funny how most of my illnesses end up getting cured by playing lots of computer games, and maybe a little bit of sleep.

Since I missed it, happy belated May 4th (be with you), May 5th (Cinco de Mayo), and May Sith (revenge of). There, all caught up. =D

Game productivity, on the other hand, was high!

Puzzle and Dragons is Medicinal

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

I woke up this morning with a huge sore throat and simply stayed in bed for as long as I possibly could, abdicating all responsibility. But I couldn’t sleep, mostly because there is a huge Puzzle and Dragons special event going on this week and I HAVE PLANS! Thankfully Puzzle and Dragons is guaranteed to make me better (this statement has not be verified by the FDA). And yes I really am sick.

The event is the super awesome 20k Likes on FaceBook Community Appreciation event. Plus the Scotch Dragon for this week is Lagavulin, which I am totally not prepared for and now all week we have a special dungeon a day. No wonder I played all day. There is so much to do I could probably easily play all week. 120 hour marathon!

Happy generic holiday that makes my online games more interesting

For the record, I do enjoy raiding

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

It’s been pointed that I may have been a little overzealous in denigrating my current World of Pandacraft raiding experience. Thus I would like to clarify that I do quite enjoy raiding, really.

What I am struggling with the most, is that my character feels particularly ineffective right now and that my ability to change this is being hampered mainly by my unwillingness to run 400 daily quests a day. (Many gear upgrades no longer come from the actual raids, but are instead purchasable via valor and require faction.)

The recent 5.2 patch also managed to nerf Warlocks into the bottom ranks of dps. Though the change was to bring the very top tier of Warlocks more inline with other classes, the middling and lower level Warlocks (like me) end up bearing the brunt of the changes.

This also means that I have to go back to the drawing board and figure out a new talent and glyph spec. Mostly I rely on the internetz for this tedious task, but currently no one seems to agree on what is the best Warlock Affliction build.

I also get to dump mastery as a stat, which I have been gearing for, and am supposed to instead aim for haste. Knowing me and how slow I am to accumulate new gear, I might just be able to hit the haste cap in time for the next big Warlock nerf.

Maybe I should just level a monk. Viva la Raid!
