This actually happened yesterday, but since it was already deemed Raptr anniversary, I decided to hold my PnD crazy until today.
100 consecutive log in days, sort of speaks for itself. I might as well just admit to having ever so slight of a Puzzle and Dragons obsession. Bonus was that they gave me 10 free magic stones, which I already spent. Nothing noteworthy.
It might be entertaining to muse about how my next PnD update will be on day 200, but it would all be lies. We all know that its a running Puzzle and Dragons commentary around here. I just can’t help myself and since its my blog, I can spew PnDness as much as I want. HA!

In other fabulous April news (quick before the month is over!), Geek and Sundry has been renewed for season 2 and its already begun airing brand new shows!! The announcement went live very close to April 1st, thankfully it wasn’t a joke and Geek and Sundry will remain alive and youtubing for another year. (Yes, I just turned youTube into a verb!)
Much of the show line up has changed and though I’m sad to see Sword and Laser go, I am super happy that Space Janitors finally has new episodes. It is by far the most entertaining show I’ve seen on youTube, probably ever. Then again I don’t go in for most of the reality based stuff that youTube panders.
But the best thing to come out of this announcement was the message that Felicia Day shared in her announcement video. After lamenting the commodification and hate mongering that has become the Geek online life, she made a call for taking it back, to honor the Geek we want to be regardless of anyone else’s opinion. “Your Judgment is not my problem” sums is up quite well and is a sentiment that I can fully support. Go Felicia Day!

The Veronica Mars Movie Kickstarter has won kickstarter. By the end it reached a total of $5,702,153 and broke the record for most backers. Woooot, MOAR Veronica Mars!!! <3<3<3
While I am clearly excited that this will actually happen, the over all feeling surrounding this particular Kickstarter seems to be ambiguous. Though this is not the first movie to be Kickstarter funded, it is the first one backed by a major studio. Why does a movie studio need to get crowd funding if it then receives all the profits? Are they receiving profits?
It will be incredibly interesting to see what happens when the movie is released. Clearly the studio has no faith in it making any money as they looked to crowd funding for much of the budget, but what if it does become a huge hit?
Maybe they would make a sequel. =D

The Veronica Mars thing has been so distracting I totally forgot about Pi day. FOR SHAME! So happy Pi day everyone. (Thats all I got, pitiful, I know!)
In other Veronica Mars news, the Kickstarter offered more bit parts in the movie for exorbitant amounts of money and once again they are all sold out (over $3million now). My yearly budget is very happy that I wasn’t able to snatch any of those up, but my inner dreamer is crying. ~sob~
<3
Was just wondering, is there a movie you guys would pay $10k to have a small speaking part in?

Holy shit, the Veronica Mars Movie Project is happening and all it took was a day. I can only imagine the scrambling that is going on behind the scenes trying to figure out some interesting stretch goals. Not that the fans don’t have plenty of suggestions, it is the internet after all.
With thirty more days to go, it will be interesting to see how much they end up making. As it stands right now there are still so many people giving money, you can literally watch the numbers increase. Its rather mesmerizing.
Someone tell Joss Whedon! Who knows, maybe a Firefly movie will show up someday on Kickstarter. Better start saving my money now!

This movie is happening!
Power to the fans. =P

Amongst other things (~cough~ Puzzle and Dragons ~cough~), I’ve been spending quite a lot of time playing the very fabulous Ni No Kuni. Like most JRPGs it is fairly travel heavy and in my experience, there is only one thing that makes running across the wide expanse of world (aka nothing) fun, and that is jumping. Thankfully Ni No Kuni delivered, and right on time as I was starting to wonder if I had lost the jump button.

Best Merit Badge!!

I think I might have just used up all my Puzzles and Dragons luck on my last magic stone machine pull. Not that I knew it at the time and was rather disappointing to see that I had gotten Siren the Enchanter.
Turns out that she is one of the best healers in the game and I somehow managed to get the fully evolved version. Behold how I was lucky enough to twink myself.
Having her as my leader is amazing. I literally can not die. Its Puzzles and Dragons easy mode! Just don’t hate me because I’m lucky, friend me instead. =D

New Years Eve at our house has evolved into an almost forgotten holiday and thus tends to be a quite affair. Having done the whole crazy, drunk, excessive, crowded party plenty of times, I find myself quite happy to leave it all behind for some snuggling and champagne. (Really! The idea of being sandwiched in amongst thousands of drunk, sweaty bodies is singularly unappealing.)
This year I took advantage of the guaranteed quiet evening at home and built myself a new computer.
For anyone who hasn’t kept up with my sporadic posting, my husband built himself a new computer as an anniversary present. And though I claimed that I would wait for a new computer until our next anniversary (I tried to wait, I really did!), I only made it as far as the New Year.

Another 30 days of video games is completed! I even managed to get every post in on the actual day, ok more like middle of the night, despite my not having pre written that many and being super busy for the holidays. But it still counts!! Plus it was really fun. Thank you to everyone for participating.
In other ending news, 2012 is officially over, so happy new year everyone.
I am actually quite pleased with how 2012 turned out for this blog. With a total of 60 days of video games posts, 20 reviews, 80 books read, and (thanks to raptr) over 600 hours of gaming tracked, a lot was accomplished.
As for the brand new 2013, we shall see. The site could probably use a redesign, but since its unclear how much spare time there will be, I shall refrain setting my goals too high. How about a few more reviews at least? =P
Thanks everyone for reading and commenting. Its always a pleasant surprise to find out that anyone actually reads what I write. Clearly you are all being paid by me to comment the most awesomeest of readers.
Happiest of 2013 everyone!

Character progression is one of those vital building blocks of the average role playing game and probably one of the most challenging to implement smoothly. Finding the balance between effectiveness and progression, while still maintaining a level of fun is what makes role playing games great (or bad as the case maybe).
But the game that does it best, in my humble (ha!) opinion, is the Zelda series. While Link doesn’t have anything as pedestrian as a skill tree, he is always getting acquainted with new weapons and magical artifacts. These of course just happen to be presented to him with such perfect timing, that he always has the perfect tool on hand to get through the next challenge.
Its incredibly satisfying to know that the ‘skills’, or in Link’s case tools, are actually going to be useful. No filler skills here!
The game also has a much more fluid leveling system. The only indication of levels is Link’s collection of heart containers, which provide him with more hit points. These do get collected as the game progresses, but many of them are available outside the general story line, so they only loosely indicate progress or skill level.
No matter what, Link is uniquely prepared for each and every quest he faces. His progress is brilliantly tailored to makes the game fun, interesting, and highly engaging.
