Thor Review (Movie)
I was fortunate enough to see the new Thor movie last Saturday. That’s right, five days early!! Husband job perk. =D
(Guess that technically makes this a preview, eh, whatever.)
Loved this movie. It managed to find that magic balance between action, computer graphics, humanity, romance, and humor. Yet its still Thor with all sorts of various Marvel nods. Even the lore was spot on (confirmed by my husband) according to the J. Michael Straczynski Thor storyline. (JMS is the guy behind Babylon 5!! <3 B5!)
It should be noted that this is still a Super Hero movie. Suspension of disbelief is a bonus, as is a tolerance for some cheesy moments. But Kenneth Branagh did such a fabulous job directing, the actors were spot on and well picked, the script was actually supportive of the story and the characters, that much of the Super Hero foibles of the past are handled with such grace as to render them inconsequential.
The movie even managed to appeal to almost everyone, action, romance, brainy girls, funny side kicks, fighters both male and female, but most importantly, they had a shirtless scene. I swear half the ladies in the room fainted when Chris Hemsworth (actor playing Thor) paraded around in his one topless scene. That is a beautiful man!
But again it was so tastefully done, just enough to satisfy.
The only real thing that might have been improved upon was some of the later character development. I have a feeling much of the end parts were cut to keep it under three hours long. Hopefully there will be a directors cut on DVD which will include more of the deeper character scenes. Ah the summer blockbuster curse.
Part of that curse seems to be the 3D requirement. Everything is 3D now, including Thor. Thankfully there was absolutely nothing that made this an uncomfortable 3D experience. And though I would have preferred this to not be 3D, this was by far and away the best 3D movie experience I have had, EVAR.
Four out of Five Mushrooms. Immensely satisfying movie. May there be many more!!

Wait, you guys saw it in 3D? But, Dave. How? HOW?!

Well he couldn’t see any of the 3D parts, but he still had to keep the glasses on to make it not blurry.
We didn’t know it was going to be 3D before we got there. Sort of glad about that since he probably wouldn’t have gone.

Still annoyed with JMS for not finishing out The Twelve. His ditching out on Wonder Woman perhaps not so much.

Did he really ditch, or was there a funding issue? Seems to me that comic books would fall victim to the mid season ax like TV shows.

Not just the ladies liked the shirtless scene.
