Writers Block in Sookie Land
It’s been two weeks and I can’t seem to get anything done for the site. I sit and sit and stare at the computer and play WoW. (Of course I’m still playing World of Warcraft!)
But really I can’t blame WoW for my lack of posting, because I was in full throttle WoW mode long before my writer’s block showed up. (In fact it’s taken me five days just to write this little blurb.)
True Blood came out on DVD recently (Sookie is the main character). It’s a show based on a series of books, the first of which I read and wasn’t impressed with. But it has become such a sensation that I though I should give the books another try.
After finishing all nine books (in a little under two weeks) I still can’t decide if it’s a series I love to hate, or hate to love. They are smooth easy reading with the substance of cotton candy – yummy while consuming, but ends with a tummy ache and, strangely, an odd craving for more.
The show did stifle my cravings for more empty calories. But when I talked to my very generous friend (who loaned me all the Sookie books) she handed me a stack of books with a knowing look in her eyes. Elf porn.
So far I’m having a grand old time filling up on written junk food. But maybe I am what I read; no substance in means no substance out. =(

I feel you on everything but the elf porn.
I’ve read the first 4 True Blood books and generally find them to be kind of crappy…. but will I maybe buy book 5? Maybe…
Re: writer’s block I can never decide if its better to force yourself to write stuff even if it feels uninspired or to jus wait it out. Good luck!

It would depend on what about the True Blood books you found crappy. For me it was mainly the main character – I could not figure out a way to like her or relate to her. But the world was intriguing. And since the writing was substandard I had to do a lot of reading between the lines.
So if its the writing, then dont bother, while it does get better its not significant. The world becomes more developed and I would say around book eight I managed to even start liking the main character. =D Plus Bill the vampire is almost non existent (yaay!)
As for the Elf Porn, dont knock it till you’ve tried it!! Actually the porn part is VASTLY exaggerated. My friends just called them that, but it turns out its more mild erotica then anything. Personally I was a bit disappointed, since I was expecting, you know, porn, but really the books are better for the downplayed version of sex.
After having finished the second book in the series now I will say that I find the whole fairy political intrigue to be very entertaining and the author does a very good job of making the reader welcome in such a foreign world.
For junk food reading its pretty good. =D
