Culdcept Saga review (xBox 360)

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

I love getting games as presents and when said game turns out to be a) one I don’t own and 2) one I really like, it’s a near miracle. Turns out, Culdcept Saga is such a miracle.

The fabulous friend, who gifted us this excellent experience, knew that waiting would just not do. So he presented it at the first available opportunity. It was just some random day, but I have since dubbed it “Culdcept is Awesome!” Day. (And like most holidays/birthdays/anniversaries I never remember the actual date!!)

This thing is, even though the game arrived with such fan fare I didn’t believe it was going to be that great (because, really, how often does it happen that a fabulous game gets shoved in your face?), so it just sat around for a while (sad and lonely).

After the third call from my friend asking how I thought the game was, I finally popped it into the xBox and started playing. I devoured it whole.

Animal Crossing Review (GameCube, DS, Wii)

Monday, April 20th, 2009

To talk about Animal Crossing: City Folk is to talk about the previous version of the game. All of its incarnations so far have pretty much been the same. Therefore I am going to take this golden opportunity to discuss all three versions. Three reviews in one!

Grass Moth~

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Back in the day Warlock pets used to come with a new name every time you summoned them. Recently it was pointed out to me that this changed, meaning the pets now keep their names. The comment was that my warlock was lucky to have gotten a decent name assigned to her Voidwalker Pet.

And so I present to you Grass Moth, my own personal Voidwalker Pokemon!

Rock Band 2 Review (PS3)

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Sit up Music industry and listen, for your future has just been redefined, again. Interactive music is by far the most interesting and innovative direction music has taken since the record player. This it the time to get involved, help not hinder. Your industry needs this boost of fresh energy that this venue is providing. If handled in an intelligent manner it could be quite a boon.

Rock Band developers meet iTunes. This is a match made in heaven and would blow the socks off of everyone on the planet. Please make it happen.

Another thing, could you please have more song expansions that focus on different genres? I have so many friends that would kill for a best of 80s or best of 90s. Throw us ladies a bone please.

The Beatles expansion is a good start. =)

My Pokemon Ranch Review (Wii)

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I view Pokemon Ranch as wildly misunderstood by the general public. Whether this was due to bad publicity or lack of transparency I don’t know. (But lets face it the developer to user pipeline is infinitely flawed!)

Upon release the web waves were awash with the cries of foul – there is no real game, the graphics are crap, this is not the game we paid for, and so on.

Ultimately what was understated (or overlooked) is that this is not a standalone game. Most Pokemon games tend to be interconnected, but this game took it even farther. Pokemon Ranch became the game that linked all previous Pokemon games into one gigantic quest to capture Mew!

Boom Blox Review (Wii)

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

What type of game would a world famous director make? The answer has now been revealed; digital Jenga, aka BoomBlox.

That’s right; Steven Spielberg broke barriers and slummed it with the computer game development geeks to make a game. It’s not clear how involved he really was. He is credited as being Creative Director (which could mean anything, participation wise). Most likely he contributed to high concept designs, played monthly builds, and gave feedback then.

Regardless of all that Mr. Spielberg joined the elite group of game developers that have their name over the title, and I’m sure that in his case it helped sell quite a few units. All those clueless soccer moms shopping for Christmas presents migrate to the one name that’s familiar to them.

LittleBigPlanet Review (PS3)

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

My first review of 2009 and it ends up being rather contrary to popular opinion. The subject: my biggest disappointment of 2008, LittleBigPlanet.

Outrageous! How is this even possible, here in this haven for cute, side scrolling, jumpers? That this darling game, this honored above all, innovative, creative game could be called out in such a manner is…inconceivable!

Shocking, I know. Frankly I was surprised by my dislike of the game. But no amount of cute graphics could make up for its fatal flaws in game mechanics.

Beware! Others might see TV.

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

The first thing I noticed after cracking open the Wii Fit box, was this hilarious warning.

wii fit others might see you play, girl gamer, token female gamer

((Here is the quote for all the jpg-blind: “Please note that while playing Wii Fit, others in the room may be able to see your age, weight, and BMI category on the TV screen.”))

So beware, others in the room might see the TV while you are playing, but they will never know the truth if you lie! Lie about your weight and age and BMI!

And really if you wear lacy underwear to play most people will forget about the TV all together. =D

The elusive Wii Fit finally caught!!

wii fit finally found, held high - girl gamer - token female gamer

This rare find had eluded us, until we unexpectedly sighted it in the boondocks. Clearly we needed travel to the edge of civilization to catch this elusive prize.

But now we finally have it in our greedy little paws and we shan’t let go. No indeed we would rather stomp around on top of it then release it back into the wild.
=D

Too many future hours of underwear hula hoop!

Animal Crossing – now with friends!

animal crossing city folk title image wii - girl gamer - token female gamer

The big sell on this new Wii version is the ability to go visit other towns. For the longest time we couldn’t seem to connect to anyone, nor could anyone visit us.

I like to blame it on not having any friends, but really I don’t know why we suddenly can connect.

Here are some suggestions we got from reading the forums over at Nintendo Techforums. These are listed in no particular order and are intended to help with the not being able to see or enter your friends towns or vice versa.

-Turn off all other computers that might interfere with the internet connection in anyway.
-Restart your modem.
-Turn off privacey mode on modem, if there is such a setting.
-Test the internet connection on the Wii. The initiated the latest Wii update for us.
-Turn around three times and tap your head counter clockwise. (Okay I just made that up!)

Its hard to tell if it was just luck but we did do all of those things and it worked today. Yaay.

But we still need more friends, so here is my info. Add me as a friend and email me (tfg@tokenfemalegamer.com) or comment with your info and then let the visiting begin! =)

Character Name: Verina
Town Name: Clover
Friend Code: 3265-9547-2194
Fruit: Peaches & Coconuts (and soon Cherries!)
