Santa brought me a new Xbox 360, which should be good right? It is, in that I can finally finish Portal 2. But I’m still bummed that our old Xbox which had so little actual run time, crapped out. I don’t relish giving more money to a company that made such a crappy product.
While the new Xbox is actually really great (pains me to say). It is far smaller, much cuter, and so unexpectedly quiet. But it also didn’t have any of my saved games on it. Get this, to get my saved games off of my old Xbox I would have had to purchase a special wire to facilitate the transfer. More money to Microsoft? Hell No! Thankfully a friend of ours offered to download all the hard drive content to a USB drive. So now I really can finish Portal 2.
Santa’s gift, though mostly necessary, wasn’t really what I wanted. Thankfully my family came through with these awesome Star Wars lunch boxes. I might just have to find some excuse to go back to school. Picnic maybe?
To go along with the lunch boxes, were Marvel and Star Wars cookie cutters. My holiday baking will obviously have to continue!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season.

SWTOR was released yesterday. The official ‘buy it in the store’ version; the beta has been floating around a while now. Never had the time to play it in beta, even though I got a few invites.
A new MMORG always has me hesitating. It’s a big commitment and most of them are just so disappointing, its better to set expectations low to avoid total heartbreak. But the husband wanted to try it, so I went out and picked up two copies yesterday.
One of the most irritating things about Words with Friends is that it doesn’t care about what sorts of words get played. This means that when fabulously awesome words pop up there isn’t much incentive to play them. Point wise its all about placement on the board, not word composition.
But since I don’t care all that much about winning I mostly just get irritated when I get a fun word like “Matrix” and can’t find a single place to play it.
That one just happened recently. But I could not find a single place to play it. Sooooo frustrating! And this is probably the only time I will ever have the chance to play it!
So I glowered at my phone for a few days in a row and then went for a different tactic. I played my left over letters until I found an opening.
It certainly wasn’t a power play, but it was incredibly satisfying to finally play it. =D
I am extremely fortunate to live in an urban city that has loads of dress up venues. One of my all time favorite is the Dickens Fair.

Today was the last day of the fair, so even though I’m not quite over my horrendous cold, we still went.
But I really wanted to go because this year I got a dress and I couldn’t pass up my last chance to dress up. That’s it in the picture. It’s dark purple with dark blue accents, very swishy, and incredibly fun to wear.
Dickens is all about recreating a 1840-1860s London filled with Characters and events found in various Dickens books. For those that work or volunteer at the fair, they are encouraged to create a persona that would fit into the Dickensian world. But for me, as a mere visitor, I just like to the pretty clothes. =D
Now I have to figure out how to accessorize, hat, gloves, shoes. (This is not something I excel at, but at least it’s not mall shopping.)
So the plan: first accessories, then a whole wardrobe!
Ugh, I’ve come down with my seasonal cold and its sucky. Spent most of yesterday in bed, not so much sleeping as thrashing about trying desperately to sleep. Eventually I took some Tylenol, which did the trick.
I was trying to rest up for the raid I had that evening. Now that I’m back at my WoW job, there are expectations that I show. So I tried. I really tried.
This is what I learned. World of Warcraft is really hard when sick. Couldn’t concentrate on dpsing with spots in my vision and an inability to remain upright. Thankfully a friend took over for me and I returned to bed. But hey I tried.
Feeling somewhat better today (yaaay sleeping for 12 hours), but there is another raid tonight. Will just have to see how I manage that one. Oooh and I’m healing at tonights raid. Should be interesting.
I finally updated my pages read yesterday and something tells me that I might not make the 50k pages I was aiming for. Granted I still have 26 days left, which is only 636 pages a day.
Yeah that’s not going to happen. Oh well. I still managed to read 94 books, giving me a fair chance at hitting 100 books this year. So yaay.
Moving right along, ElfQuest was one of my all time favorite graphic novels when I was younger. I just found out that every single edition is online!! http://www.elfquest.com/gallery/OnlineComics3.html
Not quite as good as the real thing, but since they are all out of print I thought it a pretty decent find. =)
Super awesome bonus, someone made a fan film. It’s all the female characters which is great, but thats only half the story. Ah well. Its quite impressive production quality. http://elfquestfantrailer.com/
It’s only the beginning of the holiday season and I am already so burned out. This might have to do with the thirty some people that crammed into my very small place for thanksgiving. After that whole ordeal, I find myself in a motivational slump.
Which is terrible timing (learned my lesson, don’t invite 30 over and feed them!) It’s a busy time. Family obligations, various fairs to attend, and massive amounts of game releases make for very little extra downtime.
And then a new WoW patch was released. And Word of Warcraft is so easy; my husband plays, my characters are already established, our guild merged with another small one so more people are playing. It requires so little thinking and motivation from me, I just piggy back onto the husband’s schedule.
Turns out that I now find myself raiding three nights a week and gearing up two characters. (WoW took advantage of me in my moment of weakness!) Bit more then I was aiming for, but then I should know better. WoW has always sucked me in whole; I’m not so good at applying the whole ‘in moderation’ virtue to WoW.
But I have to say that the 4.3 Patch has made the game much more fun. By that I mean progression is possible, without agonizing grinding or learning curves.
Plus the new tier 13 Warlock set bonuses are awesome! This is probably the first time ever that I have actively wanted to complete a set bonus. Doomguard more often? Yes please!! No more Shard fussing? Finally!
~sigh~ World of Warcraft is like a pit of Quick Sand. Seems like I’m stuck here for a while and the more I struggle the worse it will be. Portal 2 will just have to wait a bit longer. Oh well.
My highest Words with Friends word yet! 153 points is not too shabby. =)
Played ‘Mistake’ my previous turn and thought myself quite clever as the word nestled right in between two Triple Word bonuses. My fabulous opponent didn’t take advantage, so I had the chance to play Zeps on the Triple Word bonus with the Z landing on a Triple Letter bonus.
Zep, BTW, is the name of a large sandwich, and yes I had to look it up. =P
