Brag Worthy

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Some people have fancy cars or big houses, some have fine clothes and jewelry, but when we have company over, my point of pride is always our game closet.

I have this pattern with guests and it goes something like this: welcome welcome, greeting at the door, rush through living area, kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom, and then finally our game closet! When I open the door, I envision a choir of angels singing, the clouds parting and rays of light illuminating the fabulousness that is the game closet. (Note to self: figure out way to hook up audio and lights to game closet door.)

MK delay tactics

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

Since my latest review is taking (FOREVER!) a while to finish, I thought I would share this little tidbit that a friend forwarded to me.

Its a Kotaku article about a Mortal Kombat video floating around the interwebz. Supposedly people are shopping around a new take on the Mortal Kombat franchise and made this video as a demo.

Even if you aren’t a huge MK fan, this video is definitely worth checking out, its quite promising!

Indefinite DS Month

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Last month I had the brilliant (ridiculously overambitious?) idea that I would try and review a bunch of my DS games. For some reason I didn’t find magical extra time to cram through more then a few of the games and thus DS Review month is extended, indefinitely.

I say indefinitely because I am fairly sure that by the time I get through my bag of old DS games I will have acquired more.

Actually I am rather interested in getting through some more of them as I am hoping to finally get to some better games. Sometimes I wonder how I manage to get stuck with such crappy games.

Guess I’m just a sucker for good PR. /sigh

June Reading Challenge!

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Its that time of the month again where I whip out my paranormal smut and call it a reading list.
The theme for this months literary jello shot is:

The goal is to read 10 books chosen from the “Read” shelf of 10 GR friends of the participant.

So I actually looked at my too read pile and found books that my GoodReads friends had already read. Might have cheated a bit, but its good for the pile. Besides I only managed nine books last month. Must get a crackin!

Maker Fair 2010

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Our Sunday was spent amongst the mass of people, sixty thousand strong, at Maker Fair. I will venture to say that it was crowded, and it took me about an hour to find parking, but every second of discomfort was worth it to see the incredible inventions of these amazing people.

It was our first time going and we were not really prepared. Turns out almost the entire event was held outside. Yeah I read convention hall and figured no need for sunscreen and hats.

And one day? What were we thinking??? It was not nearly enough time to experiance the entire event.

We finally left the event sunburned and exhausted, but it was so incredibly worth it. People have made some crazy, ingenious, awesome, and beautiful stuff. And really I can’t not love an event where I can say: “Lets go see the burning thing over there!”

<3 TFG <– will be going next year, all weekend!!

Healing my way to Tree Form!

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Although I have tried a wide range of characters in World of Warcraft, I have not played a healer since beta. Strangely enough the two characters that I have leveled past fifty are both ranged DPS with pets (Hunter and Warlock). Clearly it was time to branch out!

The not playing a healer thing had a few different reasons, the most prominent being: (1) the changes to priests in beta broke my heart and I refused to play one ever again! and (2) my husband plays a holy priest as his main (making reason one very easy to uphold!). Since I enjoy playing WoW with my husband, playing another healer has seemed rather superfluous.

But recently the mood has changed around here. Husband of mine seems to want a bit of a healing break. Maybe he was jealous of my leet deeps, or he was feeling the urge to stray, whatever the case, he is happy to alt it up with me. So he is tanking while I am healing in our awesome druid duo. (Getting pick up groups has been a breeze!!)

Being Sick is a HUGE waste of time.

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

I just slept twenty two hours out of the last thirty six. It is incredible how much I can not get done while I’m sleeping. To make matters worse I was exhausted for the twelve hours I was awake. Hell I’m exhausted now, which means I should probably be sleeping. UGH.

It almost feels like my inner seventeen year old has reared its ugly head. I sleep all the time and am incredibly moody when I’m awake. To say I was happy to leave that whole thing behind is a rather large understatement.

Hopefully I can sleep my way back to my current age. =P

Twitter, why?

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

One of the perks of running TFG.com myself, is that I get to see all sorts of fascinating information about who visits the site. Oh nothing incriminating like credit card numbers, street addresses, or porn viewing history. Its mostly just statistics about where people are from, how many views each post garners, and so forth.

The section, “Last Search Terms”, logs when people reach the site via a search engine. It also logs what their search criteria was. How people find there way here is incredibly intriguing, often also hilarious, strangely off topic, or confusing.

How to Pick

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

The whole clearing out my DS games was incredible long overdue. Going through them I noticed games from back in the day (eons ago!) when the DS first came out. YES, all the way back in 2004. Just don’t be surprised if one of the reviews is six years past due.

Turns out I have accumulated over sixty DS games in the past six years. That is only ten a year, not unreasonable. I took out a few of my husbands and a few I had already reviewed and paired it down to fifty. Still way too many to review this month.

Scribblenauts was a natural first choice as I had just finished playing it. That still left me with fourty-nine to pick from.

The only solution I could come up with that would significantly cut down on the time I would spend agonizing over deciding, was to throw them all in a bag and let randomness decide, ala scrabble Carcassonne =D

Viva la Random!

Go figure, broken links take time…

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

So I installed a new Plugin called, Broken Link Checker. I figured it would be a good idea, for surely none of my links were broken anyway, and it can’t hurt to check, right?

Since I have installed it, I have spent more time fixing broken links then I have playing video games. Go Figure.

It would of course be fabulous if the plugin was perfect, but its not. Any sort of connection interference and it will flag perfectly good links as broken, which means I have to monitor it very closely. At this rate I might just turn it off.

So if you see a link that is crossed out, it is my handy dandy link checker at work. Is the link broken? Who knows, but clearly I haven’t gotten around to fixing it.
