Weekly WoW Woes

(Its such an awesome title how could I not run with it?!!? Probably should have been Monthly WoW Woes, but that certainly doesn’t roll off the tongue as well.)

DPS (Damage Per Second). The never ending quest for the all time highest damage output EVER. What is the DPS ceiling and how can I get there???

Since both of my World of Warcraft characters are DPS-centric, this question comes up for me often. My love-hate relationship with recount doesn’t help, as I can’t seem to get by without it, but playing with it is almost as impossible. Would I do better without it? Keeping track is eminently distracting. Though having such a clear display of ones performance (compared to everyone else) is highly motivating.

But then the damage meter is only that, a monitor, or a gauge for what is transpiring. It merely indicates that one might actually be on the right track for reaching the vaulted DPS ceiling or not.

All actual work is left to us, as is navigating the labyrinthine talent and gear selection. Because all that matters almost as much as skill.

The careful mapping out of equipment, the precise strategy of selecting appropriate gear, the picking of the perfectly balanced talent build. Hours of time, outside of playing WoW, devoted to playing WoW.

I wish I were better at all that, though I lack motivation, time, and resources. Instead I must rely on the conclusions of others. But then who is right?

Its all so confusing and frustrating. There are certainly times I would rather just say screw it and walk away. Then recount reminds just how poorly I could be doing and I’m back on the DPS wagon.

Just ignore all the crap and wear what’s pretty, and choose talents that are sparkly. =)
