Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 Demo Review (xBox Live)
Geometry Wars 2 Website
This doesn’t seem like a whole new game to me. The new additions, 3d models and different game modes, don’t change the fact that the core game is essentially the same as its predecessor.
The new game play modes really seem to be the big draw. Although the core game is still the same, having different goals gives the game more longevity and brings new interest to what was once a single faceted game. (Not that I played any beyond the one demo mode.)
The fancy new 3D models are just eye candy. The game still is played on a two dimensional field. I suspect they used up the pesky version two title, so that they can make the leap to proper three dimensions in the next game and title simultaneously.
The demo on the other hand is brilliant. Only one mode is available but it’s the infinite life for three minutes version, which solves almost all of the problems I had with this games predecessor.
My dual nipple skills are still atrocious, but at least now I can play for a solid three minutes no matter how awful I am.
Still, I’m not going to get the full version of the game since my inability to master the controller relegates me to “enjoying a fabulous light show” status. It is pretty, but I believe the point is to also have fun playing.

Three (out of five) Mini Mushrooms. The demo is super small but brilliant in its choice for accessibility and endless replay ability.
