(Its such an awesome title how could I not run with it?!!? Probably should have been Monthly WoW Woes, but that certainly doesn’t roll off the tongue as well.)
DPS (Damage Per Second). The never ending quest for the all time highest damage output EVER. What is the DPS ceiling and how can I get there???
Since both of my World of Warcraft characters are DPS-centric, this question comes up for me often. My love-hate relationship with recount doesn’t help, as I can’t seem to get by without it, but playing with it is almost as impossible. Would I do better without it? Keeping track is eminently distracting. Though having such a clear display of ones performance (compared to everyone else) is highly motivating.

You know that nasty illness that’s been going around and lasts forever. Well I got it. I can’t breath through my nose and I’m hacking up a lung every five minutes.
And we are moving (IRL) at the end of the month. So I’m trying desperately to pack everything but the computers and the TV and have an Internet connection set up before I move. Important stuff.
But being sick and packing dont mix well, and for some stupid reason I can’t make myself get extra sleep because I might miss a raid. Plus we got the second season of Chuck on DVD, so I really can’t convince myself to sleep.
Stupid I know.

Okay, so maybe not all woes, but all it is certainly time for my weekly WoW ranting. (Hmm maybe I should do this weekly, might be cathartic.)
Somehow I have gone from being mildly interested in raiding, to raiding consistently four days a week. Since the new dungeon came out, Ice Crown Citadel (ICC), I got invited to be a guest (Hunter) on a regular ICC10, which turned into semi permanent. Then my little guild started running an ICC10 (Warlock does guild runs) and we got invited as a guild to join an ICC25, which has been taking two days a week so far.
The guest gig currently has the best success rate, as it’s a more consistent set of people. Our guild is too small so we always have to pick up a few extra random people (same with the 25man run). But overall the challenge is exciting and succeeding is invigorating.

The latest patch for World of Warcraft (patch 3.3) was recently released, featuring a few new dungeons and of course lots more gear to get.
Being the good little WoW hamster that I am, I hopped onto the gear and reputation grinding mill as soon as I possibly could. And most other times I find myself happily chasing that tantalizing carrot dangling ever so close to my nose, yet with this latest patch it seems like I am running through mud.
Adding in the badge system for purchasing gear and items was a brilliant move that opened up gear to a much larger group of people. With the 3.3 patch, new gear was added and along with that they added new badges to purchase the higher level gear. Only they made the new Frost badges almost impossible to get, unless of course you are raiding.
Even for those raiders out there, there is only one new raiding dungeon that was added. The only place that drops frost badges! To top it all off, they didn’t even finish the dungeon! Its still missing quite a few bosses.
/sigh
So I lumber through the mud, though its wearing on my patience. But I do understand why the decided to take this route. This is the last new content before the next big expansion and frankly its not much. How this is going to last for the next 8 months to a year until Cataclysm, I dont know.

…Finding them.
Once resigned to the fact that PUGs are necessary and need to be suffered, finding them becomes the challenge.
Sadly in World of Warcraft the Looking for Group function is horrible. It is incredibly limited and hardly anyone seems to use it.
On my server the big alternative is the trade channel. This channel is only available while inside a major city. Since it is literally the only channel that gets used with any frequency everyone joins it, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Imagine every PUG experience rolled into one very overused channel. It’s awful and I avoid it as much as possible.
Overall finding PUGs is not that easy, especially if you are a damage (DPS) class, as they tend to be a dime a dozen. Either you sit in town reading through agonizing trade chat, or you join the severely limited in game Looking for Group feature.

Geeky Teen Girl Romance!
As a general rule I tend to pick up anything that involves the words ‘gamer’ and ‘girl’ (or various forms thereof). Those two words have been tough to find in the same paragraph, much less in the same sentence. Clearly the machines that drive capitalism have scented a new market as these words have been showing up together far more often.
Gamer Girl completely capitalizes on the newest trend in geekyness; girls play computer games too! The thing that rankles most about the whole ‘targeted market’ is that the book is merely a standard teen romance novel coated with a layer of geek.

One of the reasons I havn’t been posting as much is because I have been playing World of Warcraft ALL the time. In fact its cutting into my sleep time. (I know I have a problem!)
Besides taking up extra sleep time, it also eating up all my game time (another reason I haven’t been posting reviews). WoW and other MMORPG are really the scourge that killed the PC market. Why buy other games, or play them for that matter, when you spend all your free time on MMORPG. They are built as huge time sinks.

After all that fan fare about getting my new flying mount, I took my little level seventy Warlock to Northrend (the land of undead and ice). Turns out that in Northrend you have to pay to learn how to fly in cold weather and that’s not a privilege you get until level 77.
So I will enjoy riding my more attractive mounts for another seven levels.
Nothing says screw you like paying a shit ton of gold for a skill that you don’t get to use. I should have just waited for Cold Weather Flying at level 77.

It’s been two weeks and I can’t seem to get anything done for the site. I sit and sit and stare at the computer and play WoW. (Of course I’m still playing World of Warcraft!)
But really I can’t blame WoW for my lack of posting, because I was in full throttle WoW mode long before my writer’s block showed up. (In fact it’s taken me five days just to write this little blurb.)
I blame Sookie and Elf Porn.

I haven’t been playing World of Warcraft much of late.
Two weeks ago a brand new patch was released. It boasted a huge amount of new content and it completely broke the game. Finally, two weeks after its release, I am starting to find my WoW legs again.
The new features were many, like a new high end raiding dungeon (that is way too hard) and a new tournament system that tests feats of skill (like jousting). But the one that got me was the option to have two sets of talents.
“Players level 40 and higher will now be able to visit their trainer to pay a one-time fee and access the dual talent specialization feature.” 3.1.0 patch notes.
It’s not clear what I was thinking as I plunked down a thousand gold to purchase this new feature. I can only attribute it to being blinded by the Shiny New factor. Because if I had for just one second stopped and really thought about what I was getting into, I am sure that I could have saved myself lots of wasted gold and two weeks of agony.
