Onward:

Stephen Fry Serenade – This cracks me up and gets stuck in my head all at the same time. If that talented lady wrote an album dedicated to Steven Fry I would so buy it.

Fail, two years in the making

Saturday, March 12th, 2011

Overlord: Raising Hell has been sitting on my shelf for the past two years, patiently waiting for it’s PS3 turn.

Having been a very large fan of the Overlord game, I had been waiting until just the perfect moment to bust it out, a moment that arrived this past weekend.

With bated breath I booted up the game, well, I tried. It turns out the PS3 hard drive was full. So about 30 minutes was lost trying to figure out how to get that all cleared up. But then finally it was time! I watched the intro scene giddy with delight and made it through the tutorial. At this point I was stubbornly ignoring my feelings of deja vu, but when I started running through the quests I cried foul.

The game wasn’t just similar to the original Overlord, it was exactly the same. But wasn’t this the sequel??

That’s right folks, I thought that it was Overlord 2. Don’t ask me why I thought this, because it doesn’t say Overlord 2 on the box. Seems kind of obvious, NOW.

After looking it up I found out that Overlord: Raising Hell is the PS3 release version of the original game combined with the Raising Hell expansion pack.

It is not the sequel. Fail.

Small World – Be Not Afraid Review (Boardgame)

Friday, March 11th, 2011

I came across this expansion at my local game store (love that place!) The box said Small World, which automatically made me pause. As I noticed that it was an expansion I did not own, my internal debate team reared its ugly head; it went something like this: Ooooh Small World expansion….but we already have so many and do we really need even more races to play?…..but more is better right?….so many we can hardly fit everything into the one box?….but its SMALL WORLD!!..

On and on it went with me frozen in place. Gradually the opposing team gained footing (I really didn’t NEED another expansion) as I prepared to leave the premises and stop all the staring. Much cheering ensued on the opposing team.

The supporting team, fearing the end was neigh, rallied a last ditch effort! Caving, I took down the box to at least give it a once over before walking away.

Time slowed down, the angels sang, and ten geeks got laid, for I saw that the expansion came with its very own storage box. I had to have it!!

The losers slunk away defeated as the supporting team threw a winners party riot. (It gets loud in my head sometimes.)

Small World Review (Boardgame)

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Small World has been my de facto first pick on game night for quite a while now. This odd tendency of mine emerges when a new board game catches my fancy and Small World certainly managed to hook me.

In short it’s a territory and conquering game. Held territory earns points, with the highest point holder at the end winning. Pretty standard stuff, but where it gets interesting is the race selection.

Words with Frienemies

Saturday, February 12th, 2011

Beware what information you share with your Words with Friends opponents, they may find occasion to KCUF you.

<<—- My latest WWF game is proof. Trusting little me announced, quite happily surprised that, hey I could make a word, and looky here, its ‘guide’. Neato right?

It would have been, had I not been sharing my joy with my fiendish Words with Friends opponent.

This Frienemy clearly had it out to use up my already claimed G and succeeded in locking up the only usable G in the game. /cry

Foolish me to think I was playing with friends. It really should be called Words with Frienemies.

Words with Friends – I Win!

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

So I have this friend, let’s call him something generic like “Patsy”, he is the reason I am playing Words with Friends (WWF). That’s right, Patsy is my Words with Friends pusher. (Damn you Patsy!!)

Well it gets worse, he is the luckiest WWF player I know. Oooh, maybe he invited me just so he could have another person to beat; conspiracy theories abound.

But I finally figured out how to beat him. Muah!! Words with Friends with Themes. (Side note: the whole theme thing will only work if both parties actually stick to the theme to the best of their abilities.)

Prince of Persia – The Sands of Time Movie Review (DVD)

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

The last time I played a Prince of Persia game, Jake Gyllenhaal, the beefed out movie star of this movie, was probably still wearing footy pajamas. Which makes my game reference for this movie a bit outdated.

Even so, I was loath to pass this one up. The Sands of Time game was after all quite popular, plus beefcake, plus action movie. Total no-brainer.

Turns out, no matter how much beefing there is, I’m just not a huge Jake Gyllenhaal fan. Oh, he did a fine enough job, and he certainly didn’t ruin anything about the movie. One brand new little six-pack just isn’t suddenly going to make him my type.

From what I can tell the game aspect was translated fairly well. Plenty of fighting, lots of acrobatics and even a fair amount of ‘sanding’ back in time. Actually by the end of the movie all I could think about was that the turning back time using the sands must be an awesome game mechanic. Made me want to play the game.
