AFK at Disney

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Sorry for the not updating of late. Been busy at DISNEYLAND! We were very overdue for a vacation. If only I had found time to prepare a few posts before the trip. Oh well.

Though I brought my computer, I have been way to pooped at night to do anything but sleep. I should have some Disney stuff to post. Will get on that soon. I hope. =P

Currently Slacking

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

My ‘currently playing’ list has gotten so bloated that I have forbidden myself from playing any new games until the list is under control! All these new releases keep messing me up. ~sigh~
I’m using Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim as motivation. Thankfully I finished Journey before the moratorium set in. =P

Double Fine Ends, Three Million+

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Double Fines’ Kickstarter drive ended today, managing to pull in a total of $3,335,325. That’s quite a bit more then the $400k they were hoping for. I am incredibly curious to see what they will do with the money. Will it be any good?? Going to be a long wait before I find out if my $15 was well spent. =P

And really 87,139 backers is a lot of people to try and satisfy. It could also be a very large angry mob. But then according to Tim Schafer all 87,139 of us get to comment about the game. That is going to be a lot of form spam to get through.

Congratulations to Double Fine. I really really really hope this turns out well.

I do so love to close out most years with a glance back at my performance, be it cringe-tastic or worthy of a small pat on the back. Though I prefer the pats, I do tend to learn more from those cringy moments. =D

2011-

Reading Challenge didn’t go quite as well as I had hoped. I started off strong, but burned out around October. Though I only read 35,101 pages of the 50k I had planned, I still managed to hit the 100 books read tally. It does look like 50k pages is a bit ambitious, life is a bit too busy. Maybe I’ll aim for 40k this year.

91 Posts this year, eighteen of those reviews. Always a goal to ramp that up a bit and I think I managed that nearing the end of the year. One thing that helped was realizing that not everything I post has to be a five page dissertation. Soundbites are fine sometimes.

Tumblr was a big fail. I so don’t have time for extended social media. Sorry. What it really comes down to is that ultimately the site is here to give me an opportunity to get more writing in. Though I would like to get my post count up, I have more chance of succeeding, if that is what I focus on instead of trying to juggle various social media extensions.

Podcasting was fun, though its not something I’m very good at. Like all things, I would need more practice to get better at it. Though I have run out of spare time to do more Podcasts with the Mulititap folks, I might record some of my own. Eventually.

One great thing about having the site, is that it has encouraged me to branch out and try a larger variety of games. I think 2011 was particularly successful in this regard. (Taking a break from WoW was also a huge help.) =p

Knowing that I will be reviewing something also makes me struggle through more of the content. I’m always trying to give the game more of a chance, so I can review it with as much information on hand as possible.

Overall a pretty good year for TFG. Onward to 2012! <3

Reading

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

I finally updated my pages read yesterday and something tells me that I might not make the 50k pages I was aiming for. Granted I still have 26 days left, which is only 636 pages a day.

Yeah that’s not going to happen. Oh well. I still managed to read 94 books, giving me a fair chance at hitting 100 books this year. So yaay.

Moving right along, ElfQuest was one of my all time favorite graphic novels when I was younger. I just found out that every single edition is online!! http://www.elfquest.com/gallery/OnlineComics3.html

Not quite as good as the real thing, but since they are all out of print I thought it a pretty decent find. =)

Super awesome bonus, someone made a fan film. It’s all the female characters which is great, but thats only half the story. Ah well. Its quite impressive production quality. http://elfquestfantrailer.com/

Not so Fantasy Football

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Guess its time for another Fantasy Football update. The news isn’t good.

My team is currently 2-9. That’s right, two wins, two losses. That puts me firmly at the bottom of my league’s pile. Though in my defense I do have the most points scored against me.

Take this past week for example. I scored 84 points, my opponent 115. Clear win, yet had I played almost anyone else in my league I would have won. The second highest score for the week was 90 points. Just my luck that on a poor scoring week I get to play the one exception. ~sigh~

So only three weeks left before Fantasy Football Playoffs. Since only the top 8 of 10 will make it, I am pretty sure that I have no chance.

Poot!

300!

300 Posts! Now if only I could think of something witty to say for the occasion. Still yaay for me. Never though I could write this much. =D

Thanks for reading! <3 TFG

Closing Comments!

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

So I opened up the comments to anyone meaning that there was no log in required. I was getting a lot of email spam and was hoping to cut it down.

Result: email spam went down, but comment spam skyrocketed!!

Conclusion: Though time is saved on email, more time is spent on comment culling. Thus for authors sanity’s sake requiring log in for commenting is suggested.

There you have it folks. I am choosing sanity over open commenting. Sorry.

Reading Challenge Slippage

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

So I am only at 57% of my pages in my 50,000 page book reading challenge! With only four months left, I’m clearly falling behind a bit. Ah well.

At this point if I hit 40,000 pages I will be happy. =D

Challenged

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

It occured to me after I added up this last months pages read that I probably should have checked in math terms to see if its even possible for me to read the number of pages I challenged myself with.

To hit 50,000 pages in 52 weeks I have to read 962 pages (rounded up) a week. Should be doable and I am currently on track to hit it, but I have been pushing my reading limits. Its not clear to me that I will be able to keep up with the reading pace I have been on. (Being sick really helped!)

This challenge is certainly a step up from last year. But so far so good. =D
